I gotta admit that this list wasn’t as easy as the others for me to come up with at 1st. Why? Well, to be honest I tend not to concentrate on the secondary characters in a book. You know the reason for that don’t you? It’s because I focus in so hard on the hawt doods 1st, and then the lucky gurls that get them 2nd (sorry authors). I had to really stop and think…go thru my Kindle…my bookshelves…my reviews…You get the picture. Once they came back into focus for me tho it was pretty easy to pick them out for my list.
I like my top 10 and they are certainly memorable characters that should get recognition. This list includes both the good and the evil by the way. Seems only fair to represent both.
1) Gabe- Supernova series (C.L. Parker) Gabe is so over the top and flamboyant it would be hard to forget him. He’s also fierce and loyal, and made me do a whole lot of grinning whenever he was in a scene.
2) V’Lane – (Karen Marie Moning) This is a character who keeps you guessing as to his true intentions until the very end of the series. He’s also uber hawt, and the things he can make you feel just with his presence? *Hard Thud*
3) Elena – Fifty Series (E L James) I wanted Ana to do major damage to this she bitch. I wanted to do major damage to her. My blood pressure rises just thinking about her. One word to describe her? EW!
4) Megan- Emotional Geology (Linda Gillard) I want to hate her, but at the same time I realize what she went through with Rose and Gavin. Where Calum’s concerned tho? Back the heck off!
5) Beckett – Poughkeepsie (Debra Anastasia) The love he has for his “brothers” kinda overides the less than savory life he’s led. O and those dimples he flashes? *Hard Thud*
6) Em and Sarah – A Discovery of Witches (Deb Harkness) I don’t know which one of these women I love more, so they both deserve a place on the list. (Actually so does the Bishop house) Funny, and touching, and fierce when it comes to Diana, I want them on my side.
7) Snarky Narrator – Gabriel’s Inferno (Sylvain Reynard) Perhaps not a character in the true sense of the word, the snarky narrator is memorable nonetheless and definitely deserves a place on the list. One word? Brillant
8 ) Queen Andais – Merry Gentry series (Laurell K. Hamilton) Central through the series this is one evil faery. The things she does are hard to read at times, which is the way she’s supposed to be. Pure evil
9) Kaleb – Hourglass (Myra McEntire) To be honest he’s hawt, altho not as hawt as Michael for me. At times I want to knock him over the head, and tell Emerson to stay away, but in the end I adore him.
10) Christian – Light series (Jennifer DeLucy) 1st I love him…then I dislike him…then I hate him…then I love him again, but not til book 2 when I think he’s redeemed himself, and becomes my hero.
And that my friends was some of my favorite characters of 2011. Maybe they weren’t the stars of the books, or series, but they left an impression on me. Good or bad they did what they were intended to do, support the major players. Good job
For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to read about Gabe, please know that the following skit is character driven. Gabe may be sassy, but he’s very lovable and really doesn’t mean any harm. Tamie, from the bottom of my Gabe-lovin’ heart, thank you!
FLYAS!

*Gabe sashays across the stage to the podium and taps the mic while clearing his throat*
“Hello beautiful people! I’m here to give my acceptance speech for such a prestigious award. First of all, I’d like to thank Tamie for recognizing that I have more talent in my little pinky than most people do in their whole body … and my body ain’t too bad to look at either.” *steps out from the podium and does a body roll* “All of this, bitches. All. Of. This.”
“And to my BFF to the DEF, Kerrigan: Thank you for being so pathetic that it was easy for me to make you look good.” *eyes his Kerrigan and winks even though she’s rolling her eyes*
“I’m sure that if you asked my Kerr Bear about the the best thing that ever happened to her, she’d probably say it was Dominic – aka Dominatrix, Dom Juan, Sir Cums A Lot -”
*Dominic gives Gabe the look, but can’t help the smile tugging at the corner of his mouth*
“Or she might even say it was the day she received her Guardian of the Light gift … blah, blah, blech … BUT, we both know it was moi. When she needed her ass kicked or just a true friend to tell her all about how bad she’ was fu…um, screwing up, I was only too happy to be the first in line. And I’d do the same for any of you because that’s how fantasmical of a diva I really am. And lookie lookie, I was gracious enough to do it all while being shoved to the back burner, but that’s okay because that’s where the flames were the hottest.”
*mumbles* “Secondary character, my ass. I need my own book.” *side glance to CL Parker, and then clears his throat while checking his diamond encrusted watch* “Okay, so I’ll be outside in 10 to give you ample opportunity to capture my awesomeness on film, and I might even give out some autographs as long as it won’t mess with my mani.”
*exits the stage* “Can a diva get a bubbletini? Hello? I’m royalty, ya know….”
Just when I think I can’t love you more…I do! Xo
OMFG! I think Gabe is really trying to tell you something here, CL! He wants his own book. No, probably his own saga!
Another great post! I can’t disagree with your list, I can only add to it. I really liked Hamish in “ADoW”. Although he’s a bit prickly, I think he’s a good friend to Matthew and isn’t afraid to speak out when he thinks Matthew needs to hear it.
I also have a great fondness for Paul in “Gabriel’s Inferno.” He is a such a caring, thoughtful soul, and if it wasn’t for the great love story destined to happen between Gabriel and Julia, I would have run up to Toronto and told Julia not to let Paul get away.
Your list could easily be twice this size!
god how i love gabe! who in their right mind wouldn’t want this bitch by their side in a crisis? lol if you haven’t read these books it’s a must! i couldn’t love these characters more if they were real! congrats on a fabulous book series C.L. and best of luck with the next book! xxx

Love the list!
Too bad I share the name with the mean character in the Fifty Shades series. I think that when I’ll read the book I might want to change my name! LOL
Love the Snarky Narrator in GI, of course
Thanks for the post! Xo
Interesting to read about your feelings towards Megan, Tamie. I started off really disliking her, but as I wrote more of EMOTIONAL GEOLOGY, I gradually came to realise how much Megan had been through, how she’d been cheated of a normal childhood. And all that accounted for a lot. By the end of the book, I felt so sorry for her, I’d forgiven her everything.
As always, great list Tamie! I love the fact that you included the Bishop house from ADoW. It really is a character in a class by itself. I can only think of two more to add that I love, love!
Dimitri – from Vampire Academy series. Even though this is a YA series, there is very little YA about it (like Hunger Games, in a way). Without spoiling to much, I really enjoyed his turn of events. Even though it broke my heart.
Carter – from the Georgina Kincaid series. He’s an Angel (literally) and is best friends with a Demon, who is a fallen Angel (literally) and hangs out with all the servants of Hell. Even though the conflict of interest is obvious, Carter develops interesting relationships with these other characters, one in particular. His interactions and motives always keeps the reader guessing. What is an Angel doing spending his free time with the Fallen? Can even the Fallen find redemption? I highly recommend this series if you haven’t read!
Wonderful choices!! I love that you chose Queen Andais. She is soooooooooooooooooooo evil.
I would add Butters from Harry Dresden series.
I heart Gabriel Baxter real hard!! Good job CL. Really loved his acceptance speech didn’t ya’ll?!!!! LMMFAO!!!
V’Lane and most importantly, Beckett! How this guy doesn’t get more attention, I’ll never understand. The whole book. So awesome!
Although I don’t know all of the books, I think I should check them out. I mean, they are listed together with Poughkeepsie. That’s a sign.
Patricia
By all means check them out, and if you do let me know what you think.
I’ve only read two books from your list. The first is Elena which I agree with. She was a major bitch that needed to be slapped. The second is Kaleb who I adored! I loved him way more than Michael and I was totally hoping he would end up with Emerson but knew it wouldn’t happen. I am dying to read Timepiece since it will be from his POV. I really want to get to know him better.
