A Letter from Axis Red (via William J. Barry)

Greetings, this is your future master, Axis Red. Wait…you haven’t heard of me? Axis Red, the leader of the most cutthroat soul pirates in the spirit realm? The pirate voted both most dangerous and best dressed by pretty much everyone in the know? I believe there are some accounts of my greatness in a book series called ‘Sebastian and the Afterlife’ that was printed in the mortal world. Oh well, if you don’t know me now, you will when you get to the spirit world.

Soon I’m going to be running the place. That is, as soon as I get rid of the Grim Reaper and his loyal agents. It would have already happened if it wasn’t for a meddling young spirit named Sebastian and his friends. I know it’s been a while, but I still think about it a lot. I’m good at holding a grudge. But he’s got no way to be prepared for my next plan of action. Trust me, the realm will be mine.

So, I wanted to give you a heads up for the future when I am in charge of that land beyond mortality. Under my rule, you will either join my pirate band or be harvested for your spirit energy. Oh, and when you get here, unless you have some amazing skills, you’re probably not going to be able to change your appearance. So if you are unshaven or have ratty hair when you pass away, you’re probably going to stay that way (which will work fine if you plan on becoming a pirate). I say this more for when you are picking out what to wear on a daily basis. People never know when they’re going to go … and if it happens to be the day you are wearing that pastel shirt, you’re not going to be convincing as a ruthless soul pirate. I’m just trying to help.

Do me a favor, if you read the Sebastian and the Afterlife books, don’t sympathize with Sebastian and his pathetic friends, but focus on me, Axis Red, and appreciate how magnificent I am.

Thanks and Torture,

Axis Red

Many thanks to William J. Barry for this character post. I’ll be reviewing his book, Agents of the Reaper, on Tuesday.
