FanFic Friday: Our Favourite Musical Edward’s

God, he’s so purdy…ain’t he?

So Katiebird, Annie and I have decided to do a “Favourite Edward” post once each month…and for this month we have decided to share our Favourite Musical Edward’s.

Mmm…Musical Edwards. *happy sigh* I love that the original Edward was a talented musician. It made me fall in love with him even more. Then when I saw the extra of Rob plays piano as Edward on the Twilight DVD, that sealed the deal. Be still my heart. *double swoon*

I’ve read quite a few stories that featured Edward as a musician, over the years. A recent favorite would be Edward’s EternalAwaken. I have featured this story before, but it is such an amazing one, that it was the first one I thought of, when we were discussing this week’s theme. Edward is a brilliant composer who interacts with a fan at a meet and greet, that changes everything for him in his sheltered life. This Edward is visually impaired, so he has surrounded himself with
people he can trust, Carlisle and Emmett. They are fantastic in this story, btw. Bella becomes the one person who helps
him reconnect with the world again.

I can’t NOT mention my all time favorite fan fic story, when we are discussing musical Edwards, even though it’s no longer available. The Lost Boys by hwimsey. The good news is it’s been pulled, because it’s now published!! Sarah Glover published her amazing story Grave Refrain this past February. If you love reading about San Francisco, quirky ghosts, a mystery of lost love, black and white noir films, intense all-encompassing love, passion, and hot guys in a band, then PLEASE read this book. It’s fantastic! Tamie raved about it here too.

I hope people will share in the comments what their favorite musical Edwards are.

You guys, I forgot. I forgot how awesome Lillybellis’ stories are. It’s been a while since I read Rhapsody in B so I went back to reread a couple of random chapters to refresh my memory and suddenly I was crying.  It’s not that it’s super sad or angsty, although there are sad parts, it’s just very emotional.  She knows how to get right to your heart with her words. I fell in love with it all over again.

Each chapter takes place on successive New Year’s Eves.  Edward and Bella just can’t seem to get their timing right enough to get together. This sweet, quiet, thoughtful Edward is torn between his feelings for Bella and knowing that his up and coming musician lifestyle would not fit with where she is in her life.

Excerpt from ch 6:

He stopped at the doorway, the noise from inside filtering out into the cold, rainy night air.

“B?”

There it was. “Yeah?”

“I miss you. More than you’ll ever know,” he said, that crooked smile finding its way back onto his lips again. For that one moment, I felt like we were us again.

I nodded. “I miss you, too.”

Still, he tries to connect with her however he can. It’s so touching, I can’t even describe it.  Lillybellis is probably my favorite fic author. Even though she doesn’t seem to be writing any more, check out this and her other fics. Your heart will love them. :-)

More musical Edwards:

My Beautiful Storm by troublefollows1017 Complete.

Unraveled Knot by twistedcoincidence  Complete.

The Gap by capitalab WIP Just started, but promising.

Like Katiebird, my favourite musical Edward fic was The Lost Boys. I was clueless to the fact that it had been pulled for publishing, and I was very happy to find it hadn’t been lost for good!

Bella Swan, professor of English Lit in Seattle, hears the velvety voice of rapper Edward Cullen one day and it changes her life. What happens after she writes her fan letter to him is fate personified. AU/AH Canon Complete

The fic I choose instead is The Letter by changedbyEdward. I know…Edward as a rapper? I was skeptical too. However,  I really enjoyed the different take on Edward’s musical career. In this fic, he’s not just some guitar or piano playing dude on a small stage in a dive bar (though I definitely love those Edward’s HARD)…he’s hugely famous and a very successful musician. Bella is an English lit prof who uncharacteristically writes a letter to EC Velvet *snicker* and surprise, surprise…she actually receives a response. Correspondence ensues and they actually develop a bond of friendship immediately, with Edward spilling some of the troubling things going on in his life while he is beginning a world tour. When Edward comes to Seattle, they finally meet…

Have I mentioned that I was a puddle on the floor? Because, yeah, it was surreal. I was just fucking amazed that he was standing there, on my doorstep, smiling at me, talking to me… I was in a daze of utter disbelief. The part of me that was EC Velvet’s fan was freaking out and the part of me that loved Edward had butterflies in her stomach. I was afraid to open my mouth to speak because I didn’t want to sound like a complete flake. I also didn’t want to stand there looking like I was deaf, mute, and dumb.

“Of course it’s okay! Please, come in!” I managed to get out as I reached my hand out. He took my hand in his and I marveled at his long fingers as he brought my hand to his lips and kissed the back of it. His other hand held out a beautiful bouquet of daisies, lilies, and orchids. I took them from him and thanked him, smelling them while he spoke.

“I’m so glad to finally meet you, Bella. You have no idea. May I hug you?”

Fuck and me. Not only was he a wonderful, sensitive, kind man, who just happened to be a superstar, he was handsome, well built, and a gentleman to boot. Rather than answering him, I stepped into his arms and wrapped my arms around his neck, putting my face against his chest. His arms slid around my waist and pulled me in tight. His scent was breathtaking and I closed my eyes and enjoyed being near him. I whispered, “I’m really happy to meet you, too, Edward.”

I loved this part, it was very reminiscent of what it was like to meet a certain someone…or how I would have reacted if allowed bodily contact. *wink wink*

This fic begins as a bit of a fairytale…Bella writes a famous musician and he ends up on her doorstep? I’m girly enough to admit I liked that bit. *grins* However, it’s not all flowers and hearts and perfect days for Bella and Edward. The author did a great job touching upon the stresses and hardships of those in the limelight, and how fame can be as much a curse as a blessing.

Another fic that came to mind that deserves mention is a vamp fic called La canzone della Bella Cigna by philadelphic. Warning…this fic is currently on hiatus, and I’m hoping hard that the author will finish it one day. It’s so amazingly good though, that I had to share.

What are some of your favourite musical Edward’s?

Can’t even begin to imagine Him standing at my doorstep, what I would do in that moment. Clinging on to Him for dear life comes to mind… *biting knuckles with teeth*

Prelide in C is stunningly good and Edward and his piano figure prominently. This story belongs on any Musical Edward list! It IS pre-Twilight but a wonderful canon look at the origins of the Cullen family. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6254265/1/

Omg, yall just have read Grave Refrain. But i do have The Lost Boys. Both are a must read because yall have to compare the 2 stories. Sarah did a great job of editing the fic to have it published. But edward had me weeping from my soul. Just imagine that you dreamt of your muse, then someone telling you that you’re crazy and she dont exist at the age of 5. Then you see her. I am on twitter @50shayds or @50shayds2 thats my pubilc account.
