FanFic Friday with Katiebird: Short But Sweet

Lately, I just haven’t had it in me, to read epic long stories. I know they are out there. On my list. Waiting to be read. But lucky for me, I also have on my long, ever growing reading list, some absolutely amazing short stories to read. I recently read three that I just loved so much; I decided to feature them here.

Anomaly by Alby Mangroves

I was inspired to read this one, because I recently saw the movie, Prometheus from Rigley Scott. Fantastic movie btw. This story is based in space, with Bella being a paleontologist, exploring a planet for future colonization. Her discovery of prehistoric organic life changes everything for her. This story won Judge’s Choice and Public Vote for the Tales From the Void contest, in April of this year.

The Exchange Student by Lady Gwynedd

This story is two years old, but I found it back in March, in my search for more English Edwards. I love reading about them, for reasons that seem pretty obvious to me. *giggle*

What would you do for this guy, if he asked you to help him?

Edward is an engineering student at University of Seattle on an exchange program with his firm inLondon. Bella is studying English Literature. I know, big surprise there. She notices him walking across the quad, while eating her lunch, but doesn’t interact with him until he starts showing up at the diner where she works. She loves all things English, so when he asks where to get a good cup of tea and a biscuit, a friendship is formed. His visa expires sooner than expected, and he is suddenly in a bind. Will Bella step up and help him out, so he can stay in the US to finish his degree? This story is very romantic, with very little angst. I love this smart, sweet, very English Edward. *happy sigh*

Waterloo by Spanglemaker9 or Spangly (I guess, she changed her name recently)

Anywho, I love reading this woman’s work. I think at least one of her stories ends of up on my year-end list as a favorite every time. Seriously, check out her profile, 19 stories to date, on there. The first one I read was her collaboration with justaskalice, Girl with a Red Umbrella. God, I loved that story…O.K., what was I just talking about?Waterloo, right.  Sorry, I get distracted easily, with good writing and amazing characters. J

The author was inspired by the ABBA song, of the same name, back in April of 2010, and wrote a one-shot. Honestly, the first chapter is fantastic on its own, but lucky for us she continued it. I f*ing love this story, because its about Bella and Edward studying English and French history together in graduate school. There’s long nights of research and debates with snarkiness, and Edward being sofa king hawt with his brains and his sex hair. I’m kind of nutty about sex and books in a setting. Really hot “making out in the library” scenes just get me going.  Can you tell? I mean, I think the only exerts I’ve posted, have been scenes in bookstores and libraries. It’s a problem. LOL!

Get. A Load. Of. This. *fanning self*

His voice, when he spoke, was low and right next to my ear. I jumped and a chill raced down my spine as his warm breath hit my neck.

I let my bag full of books and papers slide off my shoulder and hit the floor with a thump.

“Do you know what my favorite part of today was?” Edward asked. His fingers touched the small of my back and his palm flattened out against my skin. My exhaustion drained away, replaced by a humming awareness. In the dark, I could hear very tiny move he made, even the rustle of his clothes as he breathed on my neck. He leaned in a little closer and I could almost feel his lips on my skin. I sighed and closed my eyes.

“Making an unparalleled historic discovery?”

“Having a front row seat to the re-scripting of the most important naval battle of the nineteenth-century?”

“Sofiathe dog humping your leg?”

“Uh-uh. Although she was hot.”

I turned my head just a little, ready to engage him instead of just playing along. “What was your favorite part of today, Edward?”

He slid his palm straight up my spine, up under my hair, to cradle the back of my neck. “That moment in the library, standing next to you, before we’d opened any of the boxes.”

I opened my eyes and looked up at him. His lips were slightly parted, the bottom one sheened where he’d licked it. His eyes were half-closed, dark and shadowed. “The anticipation…”

“The smell of the paper… The dust…”

“Jesus Christ, I wanted you so badly.”

“Me too. On the table.”

He groaned and we fell on each other, a frantic scramble of lips and hands and tangled limbs, as we stumbled across the room towards the bed. When we hit it and began to fall, Edward twisted us. My back hit the bed and he hit me. In seconds, he was on me, kissing me, pushing up on the bed, levering himself over my body.

“I wanna do this with you in a library some time.”

“Do what?”

His hand slipped under the waistband of my jeans. “This. You. Me. Hot throw-down sex. Library. God, doesn’t that sound like the hottest thing ever?”

I growled and reached for him, gripping the back of his neck and pulling his mouth back down to mine. He kissed me back, working my pants open and his hand inside. His fingers hit the mark and I gasped, shutting my eyes tight as he wound me up unbelievably fast. I must have had a lot of tension to work out.

“We can’t have sex in the library,” I moaned.

“Sure we can. If we’re quiet. Can you be quiet, Bella?”

“Oh Jesus, not now I can’t!”

And then I wasn’t quiet. Not at all. There was no possible way to be quiet as Edward’s fingers worked their magic on me and pushed me straight into a mind-blowing orgasm.

*Eyes glazed over* Who? What? Where am I? Oh. Hello there. Is everyone still reading this or have you all just gone straight to the link for this story already? *crickets* Yeah, I thought so…

Sometimes you just need to cut to the chase, you know? So please if you have some short stories that you want to recommend, I implore you to share them with us in the comments.

Thanks. Forehead kisses to everyone.

I’m bookmarking all of these! I think I might have mentioned my love for short stories, both fan fic and “normal” fiction. My attention span isn’t what it used to be… do dee doo.

English Edward… *Homer gurgle* I really need Rob to do a movie with his natural accent. Just a twenty something Brit going about his days as a mega star trying to balance his real life and professional life. Okay I want Rob to do a reality show. (not really, maybe a little, don’t judge me)

    Awesome post Katie!! xoxo

LOL!! I would watch Rob do pretty much anything, but “mack” on his girl. I see enough of that on the big screen. Just saying… Just eat, read, sleep. Write and play music. THAT’S entertainment.

It would be cool for him to do a romantic comedy, like Notting Hill. *happy sigh* Or a quirky Woody Allen movie. 🙂
