Elena reviews : Seducing Cinderella by Gina L. Maxwell

The synopsis :

Mixed martial arts fighter Reid Andrews’s chance to reclaim his title as light heavyweight champ is shattered when he’s injured only months before the rematch. To make sure he’s healed in time, his trainer sends him to recuperate under a professional’s care—Reid’s best friend’s little sister, all grown up.

Disorganized and bookish Lucie Miller needs some professional help of her own. She’d do anything to catch the eye of a doctor she’s crushed on for years, so when Reid offers seduction lessons in exchange for 24/7 conditioning for the biggest fight of his career, Lucie jumps at the chance.

Soon Reid finds himself in the fight of his life…winning Lucie’s heart before she gives it to someone else.

My review:

Seducing Cinderella is bound to seduce whoever picks it up. I loved this steamy, funny and engaging story by Maxwell and, quite honestly, I was surprised and very pleased to see that despite it being this author’s debut novel, it delivers flawlessly. Seriously, it’s that good.

This book is gaining so much success for a reason–it has amazing characters, great plot and dialogue, and Maxwell’s writing is a delight to read.

But first let’s talk about Lucie and Reid. I’m so happy that the books I’ve read recently all have believable characters. Seducing Cinderella is another novel whose protagonists jump off the page and it’s very easy to love them. Lucie is a lovely physical therapist who doesn’t know how beautiful and kind she is. A past experience shattered her confidence and she doesn’t see herself the right way. Furthermore, she pines for Mr. Wrong Guy…She doesn’t believe much in romance at this point of her life, though… She’s been burnt and she’s afraid of love. It’s hard not to relate to Lucie. She goes through common experiences and I felt like I actually knew her.

Enter Reid. He’s, well…gorgeous and sexy as hell. He’s a fabulous mix of edginess and sweetness that make for an uber hot man. He’s an MMA fighter with an artistic side that he slowly lets loose and when he does, he conquers you irrevocably, with no turning back.

Reid and Lucie already know one another, since Reid was best friend with Lucie’ s older brother, but when they meet, they don’t expect to run into each other and a whole new lever of discovery and exploration starts between the two of them. I loved that Reid likes Lucie for who she is. Yes, he gives her seduction lessons in order to help her win the heart of the guy she pines for, but by doing this he actually helps her believe in herself, build her confidence. And during those lessons sparks fly between them. They try to resist this attraction at first, but their chemistry soon becomes too intense to ignore…The result is sexual tension at its best that turns into passionate lovemaking.

In fact, this novel is smoking hot and deliciously so. The love scenes are very steamy, very sexy but never gratuitous and highlight the new level of intimacy Reid and Lucie reach together.

Another point of strength of this book is the dialogue. Dialogue is a huge deal for me in novels. If I find it lacking, I can’t go on with the story. I was so pleased to see that Seducing Cinderella has amazing dialogue with plenty of humor and brilliant lines.

I highly recommend you read this one! It’s the first of a series and I’m looking forward to the second installment ( I seriously need more Reid and Lucie) and everything Maxwell will write from now on.

I give this book 4 stars.

Some of my favorite passages :

“Lucie felt like she just sold her soul to the devil, and she couldn’t care less. In all her life she’d never felt so wanted, so desired. Reid was setting her on fire and she was more than happy to go down in flames.”

“ ‘Since when has my heart been with you?’ She nodded. He stepped closer and framed her face in his large hands. ‘Quite possibly from the first time I heard you snort.’ He placed a kiss on the tip of her nose. ‘Very probably when you flirted with our waiter.’ A warm kiss on the freckle by her eye. ‘Almost certainly the first time you fell asleep in my arms.’ A small kisss on the opposite cheek. ‘And most definitely the night we made love.’ Finally, a tender kiss on the lips.”

“ ‘Because when I make you come for the first time I don’t want you holding back. I want to hear every hitch of your breath.’ He placed a kiss at her temple. ‘Every moan’ Another kiss on her cheek. “And I won’t be satisfied until you scream my name.’”

“Heart. Any fighter can win against any odds if he has more heart than his opponents.”

I absolutely adored this book as well! I thought it was top notch and you’re right about the dialogue, it’s fantastic. The book really has it all. I was sorry when it ended. I can’t resist sharing one of my favorite parts:

    “Lucie?”
She kept her eyes closed and had a sated look on her face. He smiled when he thought about how short lived her satiation would be once he worked her up again.
    “Hmm?”
“I was just wondering if that did anything for you.”
Her eyes flew open. “Not really, no. What else have you got, hotshot?”

    Just fun romance!
