The synopsis :
Carina Conte has had a crush on her brother Michael’s best friend, Max Gray, since she was a teenager. Now she’s earned her MBA and come to work at Michael’s new venture, America’s fastest-growing bakery empire. But some things never change: her family still treats her like a child. With three drop-dead gorgeous siblings, she’s still the ugly duckling of the bunch. And Max, the company’s new CEO, still barely notices her.
Max knows Carina Conte is strictly off limits. But hot-blooded lust wins out at a conference when the two share a scorching one-night stand—and are busted by her mother! Now, forced by old-world Italian tradition into a marriage he’s not ready for, Max is miserable—and Carina is furious. Her new husband is about to realize that hell hath no fury like a woman transformed…
My review :
The Marriage Mistake was as sexy, funny, intriguing and sizzling as the other two previous installments of the Marriage to A Billionaire Series.
This time we follow the story of Carina Conte, Michael’s little sister, and Max, the “La Dolce Maggie” company’s new CEO. Carina has changed a lot since we met her in The Marriage Trap. From an insecure and self-conscious girl, she has turned into a beautiful and very confident young woman. Or so it seems…She’s always had a crush on Max, who never noticed her. Now Carina wants to get him out of her system and move on, but Max becomes extremely attracted to this new Carina, or perhaps he’s always been?
The men penned by Jennifer Probst never disappoint. Can we have more men like them, please? You’re bound to fall in love with Max…as did I. He’s simply irresistible.
Carina is another favorite female character of mine. She wants to be independent and to prove she’s a woman who knows what she wants, but she’s also vulnerable. She has a very tender heart and she wants to do her best not to let people break it again. And who hasn’t experienced these kind of feelings? But love is unpredictable and can’t be controlled, not even by Carina…
One of the things that characterize Probst’s books is sexual tension and I love them for it. In The Marriage Mistake it’s pretty intense and when Carina and Max finally let go, it’s hotness overload.
This is another great installment of the series. If you enjoyed the first two books, you’re going to love this one. It has plenty of light-hearted moments( watch out for Mamma Conte ) , sweet romance, sexy scenes and great humor. This is also a story about choices and how they can change our lives, if we have the courage to pursue our dreams.
Jennifer Probst is now writing The Marriage Merger and I’m itching to get my hands on it. Jennifer, write faster, please! 😉
I give this book 4 stars.
Some of my favorite passages :
” ‘She blinked. ‘What’s wrong with you? Cranky from working too hard at the festival? ‘
His brows snapped down. ‘No. Just never pegged you for the cutesy type. ‘ Well, at least not now. The old Carina reminded him of giggles and whispers behind cupped hands about boys. The one he held new bespoke a woman in need of being tamed and taken.
‘You never pegged me for a lot of things.’
He tightened his hold and eased an inch closer. The scent of clean female skin and fresh cucumber teased his nostrils. How can something so innocent and pure create such a primitive rush of lust? Crap, he felt as if he was falling into frikkin Wonderland and scrambled for escape.” — The Marriage Mistake
“In some dim corner of his mind, he always imagined if he ever kissed Carina it would be more of a spiritual experience ; an initiation into tenderness and the gentle slide of lip against lip. Instead, the reality ripped through him with a savageness he never believed possible. He was going to hell and it was worth every damn moment.”–The Marriage Mistake
“He rolled her over to face him. Chocolate brown eyes filled with a sadness and vulnerability that tore his heart. ‘I love you. This isn’t about doing the right thing, or not becoming like my father. I want a life with you and I won’t settle for any other woman.” –The Marriage Mistake
