Booking Through Thursday: Soundtrack

Booking Through Thursday

Do you ever try to pair music with the book you’re reading? Do you ever try to pair music with the book you’re reading? Find mood music that fits with your story?

Great question…

Do you ever try to pair music with the book you’re reading?

Some peeps are so good at putting playlists or soundtracks together for the books they read. Me?!? Not so much. I have some songs that just scream certain books or scenes, but for the most part…I leave that to the authors or other readers.

Do you ever try to pair music with the book you’re reading?

I’ve done this with a few books…namely the Twilight saga.

Find mood music that fits with your story?

This is something I do occasionally.

What about you? Do you have playlists or soundtracks for your favorite books?

After reading GI & GR, i downloaded a bunch of Diana Krall music to my PS3. I actually love listening to her. Her music is so very relaxing and great to read to. I also had downloaded a bunch of Classical music after reading the FSOG Trilogy. Anything soothing is best! 🙂

My two favorite things are music and books so when I can pair them together that just intensifies the experience. I love that authors are starting to make their own playlists and I’ll usually upload those to something like Spotify. If a book mentions specific songs a long the way I’ll keep track of them to create that playlist later; I might add to that playlist using the original tracks as inspiration. I don’t really ever create my own playlist without book/author input first.

If I’m listening to music while reading I don’t go out of my way to find things that match the mood or theme of the story. I’ll listen to anything.

In my own writing I get inspired by songs and will create writing playlists to keep the creativity moving along; a lot of the time that directs where I go with a scene.

  3. It’s funny that you brought this up. I was listening to the CD, Love, Sensuality, Devotion by ENIGMA. It fit Gabriel & Julianne perfectly. It’s about love, lust, and penance. The sounds and singing are quite beautiful. Now, when I hear the music, I think of Gabriel & Julia. Music does inspire writing…think of it as a score to a movie.

I hadn’t done this much before, but Gabriel references several songs, which I then downloaded and listened to while reading. Holy Frijoles!

For Will & Lou from Me Before You, I played “Only Time” by Enya throughout reading. It gives me chills and I cannot picture anyone else.
Gabriel & Julia – “Juliet” by Royal Wood
Holder & Sky – “You can go your own way” by Lissie (Fleetwood Mac cover)
Andrew & Camryn – “Ships in the night” by Mat Kearney
