What if a ‘Once in a Lifetime’ could happen twice?
Suffering from a past full of tragedy, Dahlia London’s soul has been left completely shattered. Happily ever after is a far cry from reality in her world. But, when she is reconnected with her past, the bonds that form are irrefutable.
When River Wilde, lead singer of The Wilde Ones, comes back into Dahlia’s life, the intensity that fires their relationship combined with underlying feelings that have never died lead her to believe she has met her soul mate.
Struggling with confusion as old connections fade and new ones begin, Dahlia’s grief begins to lift–but guilt remains. River wants to be the one to mend all that is torn within her.
But with a past that is never really gone, can their future survive?
*****TORN will complete the duet. Due out October 1st, 2013!****
I definitely like stories with rockers in them, and while River is the lead singer in a band…that part of the story is more in the background, and I liked it that way in this particular story. When River and Dahlia first meet there really is an instant connection and attraction...BUT… they don’t actually get together til a few years have passed. Dahlia is in a relationship already, and while Ben is by no means a bad guy or unlikeable…I wasn’t drawn to him the way I was River.
Tragedy strikes several years later and Dahlia is left shattered. It takes her a very long time to begin to pick up her life again. She meets River again while on a professional assignment and both of them feel that same pull to each other that they felt the first time. I truly adore the character of River for so many reasons. He’s a really well-developed character and while he may not be perfect…he’s pretty darn close in the ways that matter. He has me on his side as far as becoming a couple with Dahlia for sure.
What holds Dahlia back at first is guilt. I thought River showed a great deal of patience and understanding with her. That just makes me love him even more. When she finally lets herself move on I was so relieved, but there’s some sort of secret that I’m afraid is going to wreak havoc at any minute. We don’t find out what the secret is in this 1st book of the series, but it has something to do with Ben in the past.
What really got me tho is the way the book ended. Things are looking great for River and Dahlia when a complete twist comes up. I never saw it coming, so I have to say great job to Ms. Karr. I absolutely wasn’t expecting that AT ALL. Although the book ends in a surprising way I wasn’t left in agony. It’s more a WTF and how the heck is that going to play out in the next book type of ending, and I can’t wait to see where the next part of the journey takes us.
I also want to mention that it was great when River mentions Kellan Kyle (Thoughtless series) and Jake Wethers (The Mighty Storm) who are two of my favorite rocker book boyfriends. It was a really nice touch, and as a fan of both S.C. Stephens and Samantha Towle it gave the book a little something more for me to smile about and enjoy.
This is a book I’m highly recommending. The romance, the heat, the angst, the storytelling and the characters are all captivating and very well-balanced.
My rating for Connected by Kim Karr:
