Armchair BEA 2013- Switching Genre Favorites…

Armchair BEA asked a great question for us to answer about genres we love and favor…

What draws you to a specific genre?  Do vampires, zombies, or witches float your boat?  Or, do you prefer the heat of romance?

I’ve mentioned before that I used to read mostly mystery/thrillers, and quite a bit of paranormal books. Those were the genres that were my go to reads.  Then almost two years ago I started getting into contemporary romance books.  It was Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard that got me started on this odyssey. I read it after seeing a lot of buzz on Twitter and Goodreads, and I floved it. Then I went looking for more great books in the romance genre and I was hooked. So…now you know something that I’ve never even told SR.

I still read paranormal frequently, and once in a while I read a mystery/thriller, but it’s tales of love and passion that float my boat these days. So thanks, SR!  🙂

What are your favorite genres? Have they stayed the same or have you found a new love like I did?

Southern fiction – I love it because it reminds me of childhood in Alabama. It’s like going home.

I love it all…Like right now because it is almost summer time, I like to read books about Mermaids…I don’t know why that is? I love mermaids in the summer! I gave my students a list of mermaid books for the summer 🙂 In the winter, during Christmas break, I like to curl up and re-read a classic. I can read anything, I know for a while there I was reading anything I could get my hands on about the Kennedy’s. I love to read rewrites of classic novels and fairytales. Pride & Prejudice retellings are my favorite. Young Adult Lit is my absolute favorite genre & what I read most of. I like to be able to talk to the kids that visit the library about what they read. Contemporary romance is a favorite as well and I love Chic-Lit & British Chic-Lit! I love romance, period. And a little bit of vampire romance never hurt anybody! 🙂

I am completely in love with the steam punk genre right now. I loved Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices series. I am in the middle of reading Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate series right now. 🙂
