Elena reviews: Beside Your Heart by Mary Whitney

BYH cover

The synopsis:

It’s an emotional story that will take the reader back to those feelings that made the late teen years such a powerful time.”

Late one night Nicki Johnson plays with emotional fire and Googles her high school love, only to find his name splashed across the British gossip columns. Back in his native England, Adam Kincaid is successful and dating a woman from an aristocratic family like his own. With a career in politics, Nicki’s no slouch, but she knows Adam is living a world away from her life.

Yet there was a time he was no farther than the next locker. Nicki will never forget their year together in high school—the year of her sister’s death, the year her mother checked out. Adam helped Nicki through suffocating grief, and she led him through a coming of age. Was it just high school, or was it something more?

New Adult Romance.

My review:

You know those books that strike a chord with you and every time you turn the page you wish you never reached the end? That’s Beside Your Heart by Mary Whitney.

It’s a book about young love, about two teenagers who fall in love even though they shouldn’t.  Circumstances are bound to separate them — Adam Kincaid, an English boy, is in Texas with his family but he’s going to return to England very soon. And Nicki, who desperately falls in love with him, most likely will never see him again. But does this stop them from loving each other? Are they going to give their love story a try, even though they have little time to live it?

This is a New Adult book that lived up to all my expectations. The relationship between Adam and Nicki is perfectly described, with the right amount of angst and passion. Adam and Nicki are both teenagers who get to know what it really means to love someone — Adam helps Nicki go through a difficult period in her life…Nicki wreaks havoc in Adam’s heart like no one did before.

They’re in their teens so of course they make some bad decisions, but they soon learn from them, and their bond becomes stronger. It’s not been that long since I was a teenager, and this story reminded me of all the emotional turmoils typical of that age, of the desire to take your life in your hands and to dream big.

But what’s between Adam and Nicki isn’t just teenage love, it’s definitely something more that will leave a mark on them forever..Mary Whitney is a writer who conveys the characters’ feelings perfectly and I found myself growing fond of them very quickly. The sweet, tender and passionate scenes between Adam and Nicki are so good that left me goosebumps more than once. I felt what the characters were feeling — their joy, their excitement, their grief..Nicki is going through a tough period in her life, but love makes her come alive again.

All I want now is the sequel! Yes, there’s a sequel and believe me when I tell you that the ending leaves you wanting more and more…For real…

Mary Whitney, you have a new fan 🙂

I give Beside Your Heart 5 stars.
