Happy Friday! I’m really excited to share this week’s recs with you. They are “drop everything and read NOW” fics on my WIP list and by authors I love! Let’s get to it….
Bella and Mom live together. No one has lived next door since the murder that happened there in 1997. One day Bella looks out her window and a compellingly handsome man is moving in. Bella doesn’t date. But Mom is a serial dater on Match. When Mom gets a load of Edward he becomes the focus of all her attention. It’s complicated. Bella is 27, Edward 37 and Mom is 45.
Read more after the jump!
I have a feeling a lot of you have heard about this one…and with good reason. Counselor is a true artist with words. I lost my mind completely over her older story, My Wounded Soldier (check out the review HERE), and was intrigued by her premise for this new story. It’s listed as romance/humour and it is funny – laugh out loud, pee your pants ridiculous at parts – to start. There is so much more to the story. Trust counselor to list a story as humour and have the word ‘murder’ in her synopsis!
This Bella is neurotic and complicated and hilariously anti-social. Add a frenetic, man-hungry Renee, her partner-in-man crime Alice (her nickname will make you scream) and the stage is set for Edward. And oh, what an Edward. Guitar-playing, flirty but sensitive, just gorgeous (I know, Edward is always gorgeous, but counselor just kills me with her descriptions, kills me dead). Renee is ready to pounce and Bella is attracted in spite of herself. Hilarity and swoons would seem to ensue. BUT, things get darker. Remember that murder? Edward is living in that house and stirring things up, for the better and maybe not so better. We shall see. *chants to self “it’s listed as romance/humour, it’s listed as romance/humour”*
Counselor’s writing gets under my skin and the story turns on a dime. You’re chuckling at Bella or swooning at Edward one second and having a profound moment the next. This story is a great example of not really seeing yourself clearly until seeing your life through someone else’s eyes. As Edward coaxes Bella out of her shell, she starts to question how she’s been handling the strange cast of characters that make up her quiet life.
But let’s get back to those Edward descriptions and Bella’s anti-social tendencies, yes?
Excerpt from Chapter 3
I plop onto my bed and fling my arm over my eyes.
His face when he looked at me, it wasn’t pervy. Just shocked. But he’d let his eyes travel a little, and they’d grown huge. And that jaw…he was different looking…more defined. I saw all that in a split second. He is probably disgusted. And now my mom and Horny are going to try to turn him into the coldcut on their…bun. Oh God.
Not only has he taken over my kingdom, he’s humiliated me in to the prison of my room, and he is invited to game night. I have three days to let him know he is uninvited. And just in case he’s confused he needs to know my mother is strictly off-limits too.
I haven’t lived here my whole life to be run off now. We didn’t move when Freida was killed. We don’t run. I may be stuck in my room right now…temporarily humiliated and traumatized…but I shall overcome, and when I do I shall strike back with the force of a tiger. Or a really mean alley-cat.
Check out Me and Mom Fall in Love with Edward (how about that title?) and I promise you will love. Oh, bonus, counselor updates almost daily!
Edward is an Alpha wolf of a dying pack in a world where she-wolves no longer exist. The responsibilities of too many lives rest on his shoulders and he’s running out of time. Edward/Bella. Graphic lemons, violence, sensitive themes. Mature.
I absolutely adored My Mate and My Power by Princess Rachael. Her vamp stories are dark and hot and have very unique plots. I highly recommend them (in fact, I did rec them HERE and HERE lol). This story is…different. Um…Edward is, kinda, sorta, a…wolf…and…
*chases readers and ties them to chairs*
I know! I wasn’t sure either and I was so hesitant to try it but I trust Rachael and now I am HOOKED! She writes great Edwards and always does a fantastic job of combining action and intrigue and scorching lemons. I will put you all at ease now, as per her author notes there are no wolf lemons, just human lemons. Really, really good ones. *cough*
So, the wolves are dying out. Edward’s pack runs across Bella and, due to circumstances *shifty eyes*, she becomes central to, not only their pack’s survival, but also the continuation of species.
Edward and Bella are swept up in their own fledgling relationship, as well as an intense sense of urgency regarding breeding. Bella works in a lab and feels she’s close to finding the cure that could save them.
Excerpt from Chapter 3:
He hadn’t meant for their first kiss to be so feral, but her lips were plump and soft under his. His mouth glided across hers, capturing her rush of released breath with his own. She whimpered and wrapped her hands behind his neck and shoulders, gripping tightly.
The connection sent him reeling, igniting the already burning fire within. It wasn’t enough. It wasn’t nearly enough. He slanted his mouth over hers and met her tongue. It was the briefest of touches, but he felt it through his entire body. Cursing under his breath, he pushed his tongue into her hot mouth, anxious to discover more. Her needy exploration of his own made him burn. She was clearly not afraid of this and wanted him with equal fervor.
As their mouths moved together, his hands left her hair and smoothed down the sides of her body. He paused to squeeze the outer edges of her breasts, but he was too anxious to feel the rest of her to stop. Her waist was so narrow and her hips supple in his grip. He drew one hand down her right thigh, the other one palming a bottom cheek.
“My God,” he breathed. “So soft.”
*howls* (see what I did there?)
Twists and turns keep me on the edge of my seat; the pace is fast and Rachael does not shy away from violence or heart fail. This story is not complete but in the home stretch. What a ride.

Reflections of Summer Twilight Non-Canon Contest – Open thru Oct 31

Light the Darkness Contest – Open thru Nov 13
Some of the most memorable stories that stay with the reader are ones where the characters have been tested by struggles, by heartbreak, pain or conflict, and make it through to happier times. Are those hope filled endings better because of everything the hero/heroine has endured? Perhaps we can’t truly appreciate the light without the darkness for contrast.
Friends to Lovers Twific Contest – Opens Oct 15
We want to see the change from ‘I love you’ to ‘I’m in love with you.’ We want to see the beginning, the middle, and the type of love that won’t end. Any pairing, any setting, anything that involves the moment of realizing they want more.
The Blue Watch TwiFic Contest – Opens Oct 25
From snowed-in fluff to holding on in the eye of the hurricane, we want your words, in any pairing and any genre, that involve stormy weather. Let the dramatic, terrifying beauty of a tornado, gentle wonder of a quiet snowstorm, or the lonely violence of a sea squall inspire you to write your favorite characters weathering the storm in whatever way they can.
Let us know what you’re reading and have a great, relaxing weekend. xoxo Debb and Annie
