One of my favorite things a book boyfriend can do is what I like to call…The Grand Gesture…this is usually something quite romantic and at times over the top, but it’s something that always makes me swoon and cements my book boyfriend into my heart just that much more. Grand gestures can be something huge, but many are just incredibly thoughtful and loving. Here are a few of my faves…
**Warning! Contain spoilers**
One of my favorite grand gestures comes from Gabriel Emerson in Gabriel’s Rapture (book 2 in the series) by Sylvain Reynard. After a heartbreaking separation the Professor and Julia are finally reunited. Julia doesn’t just forgive him the second he reappears, so… ever romantic and resourceful, Gabriel invites her to his house and in his backyard garden…’stood what looked like a Sultan’s tent. In the tent was a low, square bed, tall pillar candles, and ornate Moroccan lanterns suspended from crisscrossed wires overhead. It was a fairy tale. It was Florence, and their apple orchard, and the wonders of an Arabian night.’ WHOA! Now THAT is a grand gesture.
In Effortless by S.C. Stephens, Kellan Kyle shows off his thoughtful grand gesture when he and Kiera are forced to endure a separation when he goes on tour with his band. Knowing how hard it will be on Kiera, Kellan does something that made me want to hug him and burst into tears at the same time. He hid little notes to her all over the place. At her home, school, work…it was FABULOUS! I think I was just as excited when she found them as Kiera was. It didn’t cost a crap ton of money but the thought and effort behind it was what makes it one of my favorite grand gestures.
Christian Grey from the Fifty Shades trilogy by E.L. James can do grand gestures both big and small, and sometimes in conjunction. In Fifty Shades Darker he gives Ana the “hearts and flowers” she wants when he transforms the attic of the boathouse…’the room is filled with flowers…there are flowers everywhere. Someone has created a magical bower of beautiful wild meadow flowers mixed with glowing fairy lights and miniature lanterns that glow soft and pale round the room.’ Along with that comes a beautiful proposal with a big, gorgeous engagement ring. A grand gesture 2 fer if you will. Yup…swoontime for me.
What are some of your favorite grand gestures…big or small that made you love your book boyfriend even more?!?
