I am so excited to be able to participate in P.T. Michelle’s Book Blog Tour for her third book Destiny in the series, Brightest Kind of Darkness. Hosted by Xpresso Book Tours.

Before we talk about Destiny though, I should probably share with you my thoughts on the first book, Brightest Kind of Darkness.

Book summary:

Nara Collins is an average sixteen-year-old, with one exception: every night she dreams the events of the following day. Due to an incident in her past, Nara avoids using her special gift to change fate…until she dreams a future she can’t ignore.

After Nara prevents a bombing at Blue Ridge High, her ability to see the future starts to fade, while people at school are suddenly being injured at an unusually high rate.

Grappling with her diminishing powers and the need to prevent another disaster, Nara meets Ethan Harris, a mysterious loner who seems to understand her better than anyone. Ethan and Nara forge an irresistible connection, but as their relationship heats up, so do her questions about his dark past.

So I read the first two books, Brightest Kind of Darkness and Lucid, back in the summer of last year.  There are so many things about the series that I love. First, the storyline itself is very well done. Just the right amount of action and mystery to keep me guessing all of the way through. From the very first chapter, you get first hand experience of what the main character, Inara, goes through each morning when she walks up. The decisions that she has to make based on what she dreams the night before. I thought that she handled it well, for dealing with it all on her own for so long.

Secondly, Ethan‘s appearance in her life, is a welcome relief for her, even though we don’t always understand his motivations in the beginning. By the end, I have a strong respect for him, and what his life has been like leading up to meeting Inara. I love that neither one of them are willing to walk away from each other, even though at times it seems like the easiest thing to do. They become quite a couple to reckon with. I look forward to seeing what will happen next. The UST between them is very intense to read. His dark hair, blue eyes, and interesting tattoos paint quite the picture.

The only thing that I found that I didn’t care for in the story, is Nara’s relationship with her mother. Like most YA novels, the parents are always completely unaware of what their children are going through, because they’re working or traveling, and the other parent has left the picture or died. At least she has her Aunt Sage, who seems to be giving Nara information about her father and why he left in small spoonfuls. The relationship with her father, or the lack there of, is one part that I am looking forward to reading more about. I just hope that the author doesn’t take the same road as most YA authors do.

I do believe that everything happens for a reason in one’s life. This series reminds me of that fact. Decisions made big and small can change the course of one’s life and those around them. I love this series for that reason alone.

In the second book, Lucid, the book turned out to be so much more than what I thought. I wish that Ethan was in it more though. I missed him so much. I am really looking forward to reading more about him in the next book. The new characters were interesting, but they don’t hold a candle to Ethan for me. When he returned and rescued Nara, I was cheering for them. I love they want so much to express and feel everything with each other. The ending was amazing!

There is also a prequel called, Ethan, which is told completely from his point of view!! I’ve not read that yet, but plan to before starting Destiny. You can read this at any time in the series. 🙂

Now on to Destiny….
