Let’s Discuss: The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski (chapters 33-40)

This is our final discussion of The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski. Thanks to all of you who joined in. The Edge of Always witch is the 2nd book is coming out on November 5th. I’ve read the ARC and will be reviewing next week.

Andrew takes Cam to meet his mother. What did you think of the whole encounter and of Andrew’s mom?

Elena: I love Andrew’s mother, even though I couldn’t help but notice that something was off in her interactions with her son. That worried me for some reason, but I didn’t know why. I loved how she made Cam feel loved and welcome.

Tamie: Meeting the mom is always scary business but I really enjoyed the way she welcomed Cam. Clearly, something is going on that we the readers and Cam don’t know about. That makes me feel anxious.

Andrew suddenly gets a seizure…What were your reaction and feelings to this scene?

Tamie: Well…that came out of left field didn’t it. I was completely shocked and unprepared. I was upset to put it mildly, and I couldn’t read fast enough to find out what in the hell was going on!

Elena: OK, that was a real shock to me. I was ready to scream while reading this. I couldn’t believe it was happening. I wanted to jump into the story and save him. And Cam…my heart was breaking for her.

We learn what Andrew’s secret was all along. Discuss…

Elena: This was another shock. I’ll be honest here and say that I didn’t expect it. I knew that Andrew was holding something back from Cam, but I would never have imagined that was his secret. I was at loss for words. And I immediately grew very sad, knowing how much heartache Andrew must have endured by keeping it a secret. Suddenly I was very worried about Cam and Andrew’s future.

Tamie: My honest reaction? HOLY FUCK!  I’m so invested in Andrew and Cam that I feel truly shattered. When an author can take you to that point…to feel the heartache and devastation right along with the characters? THAT is what makes for a story that everyone should read. THAT is why J.A. Redmerski belongs on every best seller list available.

Your feelings on the hospital scene and on Andrew’s letter.

Tamie: I was bawling my eyes out. Y’all know when you reach that point when you’re so into a story that you feel like it’s real? Yeah…that. All I could think was NO! This cannot be happening.

Elena: I cried. Yes, I cried. The author was able to touch me so deeply with this scene, that I had real tears to my eyes. I had to stop reading for a second, in order to regain my composure. It was becoming too much and I needed a moment. In my opinion, Andrew’s letter is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever read in books.

The epilogue. Discuss…

Elena: OMG The epilogue was such a relief to read! I loved it! I admit that the first few lines worried me to death, because I thought the worst had happened, but when I saw that everything was fine my heart rejoiced! I couldn’t have hoped for a better epilogue, and now I can’t wait to read The Edge of Always! Cam and Andrew are now one of my favorite fictional couples 🙂

Tamie: How to describe the utter relief and joy I felt is difficult. I went from one emotional extreme to another, and I can honestly say that The Edge of Never is definitely one of my favorite books of 2013. Amazing story and characters. A must read. It’s one of those books that will claim your heart.

Your favorite sentence:

Elena: “Yes, I’ll marry you, Andrew Parrish.”

Tamie: Can I just say the entire epilogue?!?

Your favorite paragraph:

Tamie and Elena: Andrew’s letter.

Your favorite scene:

Elena and Tamie: The epilogue.

Again, I want to thank all of you who read and left comments on our discussions.

The next book Elena and I will be featuring and discussing for the book club will be our winter selection which will happen in January. 🙂

  1. I ugly cried with this book !! Had to stop at times just to get my emotions under control. Oh I cried with a few other but nothing like that !!!! This is my most favorite book of all so far !! Can’t wait till Andrew’s story comes out !!! There are some authors that make you feel like your reading there story. Then there is some that make you feel like your living the story !!!! The Epilogue make my heart break then happy in the matter of 1 chapter !!! ❤

  2. Janet says:

I sobbed my heart out crying, something that rarely happens to me. An author can get a quivering lip and some sniffles from me, but never down and out sobbing. Such a relief that it ended well. Cannot wait for “Edge of Always.”

Yeah. I picked the worst time to read this section of the book. I was waiting for my plane, since it was delayed.
Like you Elena, I had to stop reading, step away from my husband, and go into the restroom to calm down. I read the epilogue later, and was so relieved. What an amazing ending.
His letter was my favorite part for sure. Even though I was a mess while reading it.
This book will definitely make my top 5 favorite list this year. You are so lucky to get an ARC for the next book. So jealous.

Hello dear Katie. I remember us discussing the ending of the book when we met 🙂 I agree with you. It’s definitely in the top 5 books list of 2013.
