So I am such a HUGE fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout!! I am completely and utterly devoted to her books, and was beyond excited to be a part of the release for the LAST book in the Covenant series, Sentinel. Hosted by StuckInBooks.
My job today is to review and represent Apollyon, the fourth book in the series. Which happens to be my personal favorite!!
After the jump, there is a link to Spencer Hill Press to enter a giveaway for a $200 gift card to any book store of your choice!! Plus a mini-interview with JLA that Valery at StuckInBooks did for Apollyon.
Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.
So first my thoughts on Apollyon…
Aiden St. Delphi, how do I love thee. Let me count the ways…
So Miss Armentrout has done it again!! She seriously owns my ass. How she is able to keep her characters and stories so cool and exciting is outstanding to say the least.
So I knew going into this fourth book, that there would be some ups and downs, and discussing everything in a review would be too spoilerish, so I am going to stick with the highlights…
Aiden, my Aiden. He really shows true strength in this book. His love and undying support of Alex knows no bounds. I adore him. I love that we get see his romantic and sexy side, and that even when things are intense, which is about 95% of the book, he doesn’t forget to love Alex, and take solace in his time with her.
“The strength in his words-the determination to get everyone through is-was so like him. No matter what, he held it together. He might falter a step or two, but he weathered the blows and he never gave up. Not on me. Not on his brother. And never on life. Gods, no wonder I loved this man.”
Highlight: Aiden in the Underworld hot tub…Mmmm. Anytime he is fighting or not hiding his relationship with Alex. *happy sigh*
“Hey, it is what it is. He’s a hottie. I’d be doing him every 5 seconds.” The line forms to left, woman. Wait your turn. 🙂
Alex. She kicks serious butt in this book, and grows up alot. Her ability to see past herself, and get a grip on the big picture made me want to hug her. She stopped taking herself too seriously.
Highlight: Anytime she would make fun of her fighting skills. Her not submitting to Ares. Fighting to protect her family till the very end. Hearing about her father and his devotion to her mother.
Deacon. I wish there was more of him, because somebody has got to be the comic relief.
Highlight: His infatuation with Supernatural, the tv show in CW. We are kindred spirits on that one.
Seth. He surprised me alot in this book. There is definitely something wrong with him, but he’s being manipulated. There were times when I felt for him. Like Alex, I don’t want to give up on him.
And last, but not least…Jennifer’s ode to our favorite alien, Daemon. LOL Actually there are just as many humorous moments as there are swoon worthy.
I LOVE this series so much. ..
Here are some more quotes that I love from this book.
“I’d face down a horde of spiders for you, baby.” I grinned at the sound of his laugh again. “For real.” “That’s true love there. Some serious stuff,” he teased. “It is.”
“Then why are you being such a—” “What?” His voice dropped low. “I’m being what?” Infuriating. Stubborn. Thick-skulled. Freaking sexy. “Good gods, can we stop arguing and just, I don’t know, make out?”
We had no idea what waited ahead of us other than the big, fat unknown, and most likely a big, fat kick in the face. The gravity of that was killing me— killing us. I squared my shoulders. “Release the Kraken!”
Several sets of eyes settled on me. “What?” I gave a lopsided shrug. “I’ve always wanted to yell that since I saw that movie. Seemed like the perfect moment.” Aiden laughed. “See! That’s why I love him,” I told the group. “He laughs at the stupid crap that comes out of my mouth.”
For JLA – So much of your personality comes out in the snark in your books and Apollyon is no exception. Which character has the most of you in them? Probably Alex.
For Alex – As far as I can tell, Aiden is just about perfect. What are your thoughts on the matter? I don’t think anyone could be more perfect than Aiden.
For Aiden – This journey has been full of so many close calls. When were you most concerned that you would lose Alex? I can’t even answer that question because Alex is always scaring me. It seems like I’m never there to protect her or I’m locked on the other side of the door.
For Caleb – What was it like for you, seeing Alex again? I wanted to see Alex, she’s my best friend, just not where we were reuniting.
