Elena Reviews: Disclosure of the Heart by Mary Whitney (Beside your Heart #2)

DoTH cover

The synopsis:

Sixteen years is a long time to wait for your true love to reappear, and, anyway, Nicki Johnson couldn’t wait for the impossible to happen. Hard life lessons have taught her that fairy tales are children’s stories, and fate is cruel. Burying her hopes, she’s spent the last sixteen years focused and driven toward her career, and it’s landed her with a job at the White House with a gem of a boyfriend. But when her high school love, Adam Kincaid, walks into the White House as a BBC reporter, Nicki’s world is thrown into turmoil as she relives their past. Adam has come back for her, but has he arrived too late?

My review:

“I love you, Nicki, and it’s not simply that you’re an old flame. This is new.” When my mouth dropped open in shock, he then smiled reassuringly and said,“I love you, and as long as you know it, I don’t care who else does.”

My sweet Adam is back! Yes, because I couldn’t wait for the sequel to Beside Your Heart (of which you can find my review here) to come out! We were left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of the first book, and in Disclosure of The Heart Adam and Nicki take us again on the wonderful journey of their love.

Adam and Nicki had experienced the heart stopping and all consuming teenage love, but they had found themselves forced to break up, due to a series of circumstances….In Disclosure of The Heart they meet years later, and now they’re adults with prominent jobs that make them two of the most influential people around. But Nicki and Adam have both other partners in their lives now. Will sparks fly between them and will Adam be able to conquer Nicki’s heart again, like he did when they were teenagers?

In this second installment, Mary Whitney strikes again with her impeccable writing and delectable characters. While reading, I felt like I was being reacquainted with two very dear friends. Adam and Nicki hold your attention from beginning to end, and I found myself rooting for them from the very first moment they ran into each other, after years of separation (and may I say how my heart literally stopped during that scene? It’s beautifully written, fraught with longing and hidden feelings)

Adam is too sweet and perfect not to love. He has the same spark and passion he had as a teenage boy but, being an adult now, he’s more skilled at reading Nicki’s heart. And he’s definitely more mature. He recognizes the mistakes he made as a teenager and wants to prove to Nicki he won’t make them again. He’ll do anything to have her back. She’s the one he’s always wanted. Melting-in-a-puddle-on-the-floor material right there, ladies…

Nicki is definitely stronger than she was in Beside Your Heart but, due to the pain she felt in the past, she’s more closed off now. She wants to fall in Adam’s arms again, but she’s afraid — afraid of the consequences and afraid of hurting once again. But the heart has a mind of its own…

I loved every scene between Adam and Nicki. Every single one. My heart was racing when they met again, in all those moments they found themselves alone, when they danced, when they opened up their hearts to each other…Seriously, there are too many beautiful scenes to mention and they give you goosebumps. And, as always, they’re wonderfully written.

“He crawled back up to my side at once. Placing a hand on my cheek, he said, “Nicki, I will never leave you again. Never. But you have to stay with me. Okay?”
I nodded and eventually smiled through my tears. “I’ll stay with you..always.”

If you loved Beside Your Heart, you’re bound to adore this second book. During several nights I stayed up till 3am reading, and this is when you know a book is GOOD, and it won’t disappoint.

Disclosure of The Heart releases today. There’s another book in the series, Forever Your Heart, which will be the last one of the trilogy and it’ll be from Adam’s POV. Needless to say, I’m already relishing the prospect of hearing what Adam has to say… 😉

I give Disclosure of the Heart 5 glittering stars.
