I’m so pleased to share my interview of Katy Evans with you today…
What inspires you in your writing and in your life?
Music, life, books, but more than anything, love. I just love that emotion, the falling in love, the being in love, it inspires every one of my stories!
You write a character that suffers from a mental illness which isn’t something we often see as readers. Why did you decide to write Remy this way? What has the reaction been like both good and bad?
Well, when I met him, he was already just as he is, so it wasn’t planned, it was just a part of him when I conjured him. Mental illness is a topic that is very dear to me, and I admire everyone who has experience with it, either personal, or through loved ones. He evokes positive reactions in people. Why wouldn’t he? He lives with a condition he strives to overcome through a healthy living, and whether someone would make a different choice or not is not the point of the story. The point of the story is that we all, as human beings, deserve to love and be loved, and I think that’s what Remy proves most of all.
What was your reaction when you found out you’d been signed to a major publisher? Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you got the news?
Well I wasn’t certain that was the route to go at first, since being Indie is so wonderful! However, my agent, Amy Tannenbaum, is very smart, and she encouraged me to take the leap, so when she paired me up with the amazing people at Gallery Books, including the lovely publisher Jen and my editor, Adam, I really could not resist joining such a great team!
What’s been most surprising to you as an author since Real was published?
