The third sexy novel in USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton’s playful and erotic Redhead series continues the sizzling romance between actress Grace Sheridan and Hollywood’s hottest leading man Jack Hamilton.
Grace has landed the lead in a new TV series—but when the director asks her to lose fifteen pounds, she goes public with her weight struggles and suddenly develops a huge fan club who support her right to have curves. But between that and the public’s continuing fascination with her “are they or aren’t they” relationship with Jack, Grace begins to wonder if anyone’s really interested in her because of her upcoming TV series, or if it’s all speculation about the size of her ass and her bedroom partner.
Meanwhile, Jack is voted the Sexiest Man Alive and becomes a little too enamored with the party-hard lifestyle. Grace vows to give him the space he needs to find himself, but then he begins to spiral down from lovable Brit to Hollywood brat. People are talking, but are Jack and Grace? Her career is on the rise, and his continues into the stratosphere, but will she be able to catch him if he falls? Will they ever be able to just be a couple who can hold hands when they walk down the street?
I’ve been looking forward to reading The Redhead Plays Her Hand by Alice Clayton for a very long time. Once again, Alice does not disappoint. Jack and Grace are two of my favorite parts of a book couple. They have been since book one in the series and they continue to keep me loving them, and for that I give a big hug of gratitude to Alice.
Jack is still absolutely yummy, and swoonerific… at least in the beginning. He always seemed very mature for his age in the previous books, but dealing with all the Hollywood BS has Jack acting up quite a bit as the stress and strain finally seem to catch up with him. Although I get it I have to say I was thrown for a bit of a loop several times. For her part, Grace now has a TV show that seems destined to be a big hit, and in true showbiz fashion the producers want her to lose weight. Both of these issues bring about some truly heart fail moments for the reader.
I was actually quite surprised by many things that happen during the story, and this book felt way more angsty than the previous two. There are moments when I question whether I can still love Jack (gasp), and whether they can survive as a couple (double gasp), but I love that Grace steps up and takes control of her life. I’ve always loved Grace but I actually come to love her even more during this book.
Having said all that I can reassure you that the things I love best about Alice’s writing are also present. Alice is one of my favorites when it comes to writing great humor and sex. She continues to make me laugh out loud, and then writes a scene so hot I swear the windows steam up in the room I’m reading it in 😉
In the end I am still in love with Jack (sigh of relief), and this couple remains what they should be…together.
I’m giving this book a high recommendation, and I look forward to whatever Alice writes in the future.
My rating for The Redhead Plays her Hand by Alice Clayton:
