Tamie Reviews: Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young

One simple lesson in seduction between two friends can turn into so much more…

Despite her outgoing demeanor, Olivia is painfully insecure around the opposite sex—usually, she can’t get up the nerve to approach guys she’s interested in. But moving to Edinburgh has given her a new start, and, after she develops a crush on a sexy postgrad, she decides it’s time to push past her fears and go after what she wants.

Nate Sawyer is a gorgeous player who never commits, but to his close friends, he’s as loyal as they come. So when Olivia turns to him with her relationship woes, he offers to instruct her in the art of flirting and to help her become more sexually confident.

The friendly education in seduction soon grows into an intense and hot romance. But then Nate’s past and commitment issues rear their ugly heads, and Olivia is left broken-hearted. When Nate realizes he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, he will have to work harder than he ever has before to entice his best friend into falling back in love with him—or he may lose her forever…

My review:

Take two best friends…one a confessed manwhore, and the other a chick who hasn’t had sex in a while…a longgggg while…seven years long to be precise…and what do you get? An absolutely fantastic story.

Samantha Young has gone and done it again with her newest book Before Jamaica Lane. She’s written a story that I flove, and I want everybody to read it.

The Guy:

Nate was a surprise to me. I wasn’t prepared to love him as much as I did. I always wondered if I’d ever come close to loving another guy from Samantha as much as I do Braden, happily the answer is yes! He’s very different from Braden but he stole right into my heart in a huge way. His physical description alone is enough to get the girly parts excited… Movie-star gorgeous. Tanned, dark eyes, sexy dimples and perfect white teeth. Lean and muscled. YOWZA! There are a few more descriptions but I’ll let you find those out on your own 😉 His one downfall? He’s an admitted man whore. Nate may sleep around a whole lot, but at least he’s honest about what it is with the women he does it with. No promises are made because he doesn’t want any kind of relationship with a woman other than a good time in the bedroom, or living room, or…well…you get it. The thing about Nate tho is he’s really a very caring and stand up kind of guy. He has close relationships with the group of friends that I’ve come to love.  He’s the kind of guy who will always have your back, and he’s close to his family. So why doesn’t he want something more committed? It’s complicated, and it’s something that the reader learns toward the end of the book. Let me just say that it’ll kick you in the emotional gut.

His book boyfriend rating: A definite 5+ for this guy ladies!

The Girl:

Olivia also known as Liv is someone I’d like. One of the many things I love about Samantha Young are the females she writes.  They all have great depth and are strong and resilient even though they may not handle past trauma’s in the most healthy way…kind of like many women in real life situations. Liv is no exception. She helped care for her mother when she was dying of cancer, putting aside her own life to do so. That’s admirable to say the least. She really had a close and loving relationship with her mom, but at the same time she lost her mother…she lost a part of herself. She’s just now realizing how crippling it’s made her in one particular area of her life. Liv has next to no experience with the opposite sex, and is extremely shy.

The Chemistry:

Nate and Liv start off as best friends. I love the way they interact. Liv has always had a crush on Nate tho…it’s just that she’s never acted on it because she doesn’t want to lose what they have…O…and she fails to realize that he finds her very attractive. She’s kind of clueless in that respect. I think it’s pretty apparent to the reader that this couple will have awesome chemistry when they go beyond the whole bff thing. As the dynamics between them change the chemistry becomes scorching!

The Heat Factor:

Holy crap! The heat factor for this couple is off the charts. You will not be disappointed by the sexy times this couple enjoy…once they reach that point 😉 Kudo’s to Samantha for her gift of writing wonderful, HOT, and beautiful love scenes.

The Supporting Characters:

These are the people I’ve grown to love and adore in the other books from the series. I would absolutely hang out with all them. The fun thing about this kind of series rather than a stand alone is that I become so invested in the characters. They all mean a great deal to me and they support the main couple perfectly.

This was a very different story than the others. You have two people who mean a great deal to each other from the very beginning , but the relationship developes and becomes something entirely different. I loved the journey these two took. It was emotional and at times I didn’t think they would survive. I enjoyed the growth they both experienced but for me it was Nate who was most in need of a change. He was resistant which made for some angst but that just made the story better and kept me turning page after page…sometimes my heart was beating fast and at other times it was breaking. The best books for me are ones that make me feel, really feel all the feels. This book does just that sublimely!

This book gets my highest recommendation for you to buy it, and savor all the wonderful it has to offer.

My rating for Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young :

An extremely heartfelt 5+

Here are two of my favorite quotes:

“You trust me to do this with you, but I’ve got to trust that you won’t try to make this into anything more than a friend helping out another friend.”

“I never meant to fall in love with you. But I did. I felt it the first night I made love to you. I tried to walk away then because I’ve never felt so lost and yet so fucking found as I felt that night looking into your eyes as I moved inside you. I thought I should walk away…but I couldn’t stay away from you.”

**I was provided with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, and honestly… it. was. amazing.**
