Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at “hello.” His relationship with Emme’s best friend kept them apart for years, but things have changed. Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible. So why is she sabotaging the best thing that’s ever happened to her?
It isn’t easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after nine long years. The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she’s a bona fide knockout . . . and she wants to rekindle their friendship. Deck, however, wants more. Emme’s always been the one; she excites Deck’s body and mind like no other woman can. But a dark chapter from Emme’s past overshadows their future together. Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she’ll let him . . .
Everybody and their brother should know by now that Kristen Ashley is one of my most favorite authors. There is never a doubt in my mind when I begin a new book from her that I will love it. Kaleidoscope (Colorado Mountain #6) does not disappoint!
I love both Deck and Emme from the get go. Hot amazing guy, and a female that I find is totally relatable. Deck and Emme were close friends years ago , but he was dating her bff, Elsbeth, which made anything more than that an impossibility. When that relationship ended…not by Deck’s choice…he also lost Emme. For her part, Emme thought Elsbeth was an absolute idiot for breaking up with such an amazing guy. She was so upset by it that she ended their friendship, and as a goodbye to Deck she brought him a beautiful kaleidoscope that she’d had made. That kaleidoscope has a great significance to the story.
Years later they meet up again, but Emme is involved with someone. Aside from disappointment Deck feels uneasy about the guy, and it turns out he has good reason to. So begins what becomes a renewed friendship which quickly becomes something much more. Thank heavens because these two have such chemistry together that I want it to be more than just pals.
One thing that holds them back in some ways is something that happened to Emme when she was a young girl. It was horrible, and the way she deals with it as a grown up is heartbreaking. That Deck realizes what’s going on and helps her to finally deal with it appropriately will only make you love him even more. It’s something that plays out through the story, and it was hard to read at times.
Kristen writes fabulous heat in all her books. They are passionate and red hot for sure, but there is always something deeper and more meaningful than just great sex. Caring, romance, and even fun are usually involved too. Once again, Kristen brings in characters from other stories which I absolutely love for the sense of family, friendship and community it makes me feel. There is always just the right balance between heat, angst and humor with a bit of a thrill along the way for good measure.
All of the above are reasons that I love this author, and this book gets a high recommendation from me!
