Elena Reviews: Fearless (Ruin #2.5) by Rachel Van Dyken

Fearless cover

The synopsis:

When I met Kiersten, time stood still. It was as if every cell in my body screamed HER. I couldn’t look away, I couldn’t walk away, I couldn’t even move. My other half, my soul mate, was staring right at me. I had to have her. I had to make her mine. But I felt selfish doing that–knowing that I may not have endless amounts of time to give her…and even now that every things’ over with and I’ve been given that time back.

Nothing is ever certain in this life.

Which is why I’m about to do something crazy, impulsive, daring.
After all, what type of person would I be if I didn’t take my own advice?
I’m jumping off the cliff, I’m living fearlessly.

This is the continuation of Wes and Kiersten’s story.

My review:

“You stopped my heart the day I met you, re-started it, and gave it a new rhythm. You are my heart.”

It’s no secret that Weston Michels is one of my favorite male characters ever. And his incredible love story with Kiersten, which is told in Ruin, is one that touches the soul.

Fearless is the continuation of Wes and Kiersten’s story. It’s a short, sweet and sexy novella that needs to be read after Toxic.

In Fearless the attention goes back to Weston and Kiersten. After Ruin, we saw them in Toxic, where they helped Gabe and Saylor deal with life changing experiences, and now they go back to being the protagonists. When I finished Ruin, I didn’t want to let Wes and Kiersten go, and I wanted to see how things between them would progress. This novella is exactly what I had hoped for.

We see Weston and Kiersten getting married, their first night together as a married couple, the plans they make for the future…I loved the sweetness that’s conveyed in this novella and as always Rachel’s writing is sublime. Weston prepares more than an amazing surpise for Kiersten…I dare say everything that happens in this novella is a surprise, and I found myself  happy sighing more than once. I fell in love with Weston even more, if that’s even possible.

“It’s weird wanting to honor the gift rather than the recipient. But here I am, on my knees, in front of the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received. If a king was placed behind you, if an entire monarchy was watching me fall to my knees, I’d still fall. I’d still lay down in front of the gift rather than the ruler, because the gift is that precious to me. You are more rare than the rarest of jewels. I’d search the world for you…”

Fearless sheds light also on another amazing character of the Ruin series — Lisa, Kiersten’s roomate and best friend. We get to know her more in this story, and some of the chapters are told from her POV. In fact, the third installment of the Ruin Series will be about Lisa’s story, and she has a lot to say and share…

If you’ve read Ruin and Toxic, make sure to give Fearless a try. For all those that can’t get enough of Weston and Kiersten, this short novella is definitely for you. It’s a lovely continuation to one of the best love stories out there.

I give Fearless 5 stars.
