Hiya! Happy Friday! Today we’re introducing a new feature inspired by YOU, our Fan Fic Friday readers. We get great comments from you; you share what you’ve been reading, you comment on our posts, and ask questions about fics past and present. Recently, there have been a number of questions that go something like this:
“I love ‘That Fic That Everyone Loved” but can’t find it anymore! What happened? Help!!”
Fics disappear for a number of reasons: authors leave the fandom, or take down their stories for personal reasons or to rework them. Often though, fics have been taken down because the author is publishing them. So many of the stories you love are out there waiting for you, edited, buffed up and ready to sit proudly on your bookshelf! 🙂 I thought it would be fun to share two of my (many)favourite fic-to-book titles and then tell you which fic I think would make a great published book. Ready? Let’s go.
My picks after the jump!
From Amazon:
It’s said that women and men are from two different planets when it comes to communication, but how can they overcome the obstacles of prehistoric times when one of them simply doesn’t have the ability to comprehend language? Ehd’s a caveman living on his own in a harsh wilderness. He’s strong and intelligent, but completely alone. When he finds a beautiful young woman in his pit trap, it’s obvious to him that she is meant to be his mate. He doesn’t know where she came from, she’s wearing some pretty odd clothing, and she makes a lot of noises with her mouth that give him a headache. Still, he’s determined to fulfill his purpose in life – provide for her, protect her, and put a baby in her. Elizabeth doesn’t know where she is or exactly how she got there. She’s confused and distressed by her predicament, and there’s a caveman hauling her back to his cavehome. She’s not at all interested in Ehd’s primitive advances, and she just can’t seem to get him to listen. No matter what she tries, getting her point across to this primitive but beautiful man is a constant – and often hilarious – struggle. With only each other for company, they must rely on one another to fight the dangers of the wild and prepare for the winter months. As they struggle to coexist, theirs becomes a love story that transcends language and time.
I loved, I mean, obsessively loved, Transcendence when it was first posted. Ehd had me at “Hoh!” and I was thrilled when Shay published it. It’s a rich story, pulling at your heart and then making you laugh through your tears. I also have a soft spot for time travel stories *coughmarrymeJAMMFcough* and anthropology (no joke, took like four courses in university FOR FUN!) so this was one of those stories that felt like it was written for me. Reading through Amazon reviews and Goodreads comments you can see how many people have thoroughly enjoyed Transcendence, people who most likely never would have read it had it been left as fic. And that would have been a tragedy of prehistoric proportions…and by that I mean really, really sad.
From Amazon:
Nathaniel West doesn’t lose control.
As the playboy CEO of West Industries, he governs the boardroom during the day; as a strict dominant with exacting rules, he commands the bedroom at night. He never takes on inexperienced submissives, but when Abigail King’s application comes across his desk, he breaks his own restrictions and decides to test her limits.
Abby’s combination of innocence and willingness is intoxicating, and Nathaniel is soon determined to collar her as his own. As long as she follows his orders and surrenders herself fully to him, no one will get hurt.
But when Nathaniel begins falling for Abby on a deeper level, he realizes that the trust must go both ways—and he has secrets which could bring the foundations of their entire relationship crashing down…
Oh my…The Dominant. This is a nostalgic selection from early days. Annie and I are both big fans of this trilogy (we bonded over Domward, ha) and I’m so glad that Tara made the series available as published books. This intense, hot, emotionally-charged story is told from Nathaniel’s POV. I liked it even better than the first in the series, The Submissive, because I so love Nathaniel’s voice and the slow reveal of the truth behind Abby’s misunderstandings. My heart broke for him at times and I wanted to run to Abby (because they’re real people to me, okay?) and tell her everything was going to be all right. It was the first BDSM story I ever read and was therefore…rather eye-opening. Let’s just say it really made an impression. The Dominant sits proudly on my shelf—way up high out of reach of little people lol.

Now, for the fic I wish would be published… *drumroll*
My Wounded Soldier by counselor
Author Summary: 1866 Edward just home from the war. Neighbor Bella has a tragedy and Edward delivers her baby. Seeing as she’s widowed, marriage makes sense. He doesn’t feel worthy, but he can’t step aside for her suitors. Competition amongst veterans.
To be honest, I don’t just want a published version of My Wounded Soldier…I want a full-length feature film… starring a certain Mr Rob Pattinson, of course. 😉 This story is epic! It’s an action-packed, emotional rollercoaster (wagon-ride?) as Edward and Bella find their way to each other and navigate the dangers of the time they’re living in. The characterizations are full and engaging, the writing absolutely gorgeous. I want to hold these words in my hands and make a little altar on my book shelf for them. Is that so wrong? I actually left a review, way back in the day, thanking counselor for writing and posting such an amazing story but encouraging her to write to publish as well. She’s so talented, an absolutely phenomenal story-teller. I really do hope to see published works from her.

Have a great weekend everyone! Tell us what you’re reading and share your favourite fic-to-book title in the comments. xoxo
I am still new to Fanfiction, but one of the best FSOG ones I am currently reading is Fifty Shades: Slow and Steady by Mrs. Fraser on fanfic.net. This is told from both POV. I love this version of Ana & Christian.Ana is much stronger ( owns her own business & ends up working with CG). Check it out

That sounds cool! I read FSOG as fic but not the published version. Looking forward to the movie…Jamie Dornan has my attention 😉

This is like my favorite post idea EVER. Love it and the stories/books you picked. I’m stealing this for a later date. 🙂
I definitely enjoyed The Dominent over The Submissive (pun intended), when I read pre-published and published versions.
I can’t believe I haven’t read Wounded Soldier yet, but I will. I promise.

YAY! I’m glad you like it, I was hoping we could each take a turn. 🙂 It was really, really hard (twss) to pick two…man did I waffle with Inked Armour… and I want Hockeyward in print… I’m gonna need another turn lol.
You will LOVE MWS, it’s incredible. He’s so rugged and swoony and a stupid man who makes it all better. Perfection.

Terrific new feature! Tara Sue Me’s trilogy was the first BDSM story I ever read too! Oh and Trancsendence made me laugh, “Hoh!” and cry. I need to read the published versions.
I couldn’t agree more with you about The Wounded Soldier. It was your review from way back that prompted me to want to read it. It’s amazing! I love it. Full feature starring Rob?! Yes please. 😉
A favorite fic-to-book-title of mine is Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting. 🙂

Gah! I haven’t read Clipped Wings pub version yet but I’m going to and I’ll probably end up fetal like I did with the fic. Jeez. #goodtimes The banner for My Wounded Soldier is so good, it’s easy to picture Rob in that role, I mean, as that character. 😉 I’m so glad you liked the story!

For fics that i would love to see published:
Lola shoes’ trilogy fic should be published.those stories are soooo good.
And Mrs. S.Meyer, should do what G.Lucus did with star wars. (There is aways a new star wars book by other ppl.) Lol Nightdancers wrote the fic, Seeking the Unknown. Its about Alice and the way its writen how and why alice was so lose to bella was just brilliant.
I think my favorite books to read came from fanfic. Love reading what they changed in the stories.

I would LOVE if Stephenie Meyer did that! There have been approved sequels and “AU” stories for Gone With the Wind as well. Really interesting stuff.
Seeking the Unknown sounds really cool, I love getting another angle of the twilight world, thanks for that rec. 🙂

If you didn’t know better, you’d swear SM wrote that. It shows who turned alice and you’ll be shocked. And the connection she has to bella in Twilight. Its a big story. Let me what you think.

Didn’t you just love edward in the lost boys. She writes a tortured edward so well and I’m gonna say it. Better than SM did. And the published version…let’s just say I was in hog heaven.
