Booking Through Thursday: Plot or Characters?!?

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly blog. You can find it here

Which is more important when you read — the actual story or the characters? I’ve read books with great plots, but two-dimensional characters, and I’ve read multi-layered characters stuck in clunky stories, and I’m sure you have, too. So which would you rather focus on, if you couldn’t have both?

YIKES! I don’t know if I can pick between the two, because for me to really have a great reading experience I need both a great plot and characters I love. When I don’t get both I’m either going to flounce on the book, or I’m going to do little more than skim along. That’s a book that won’t get a recommendation from me, or a review for that matter.

What about you? Are you able to choose one over the other?

I agree with you. Having both is essential to a book that will hold my interest. I usually don’t finish and have to move on. Thanks for all your amazing reviews and recommendations!

Both are necessary, because if the story doesn’t have legs after the second chapter, I lose interest. I don’t think the characters make a dull book any more interesting if the story sucks.
