Booking Through Thursday: Mystery

This Booking Through Thursday topic is from a few weeks ago, but it has personal relevance to me, and it was something I was chatting about with Christina Lee on twitter this morning…

Do you read mystery novels? If so, why? Is it the mysteries themselves that appeal to you? The puzzle-solving? The murders? Or why don’t you read them? What about them doesn’t appeal?

For years I read almost nothing but mystery/thriller books. I devoured them just like I now do romance books, and just like with romance books they could be subdivided into different categories. There are the more fluffy variety like Janet Evanovich or Sue Grafton write. Both are favorite authors of mine as are the women sleuths of the books. Stephanie Plum and Kinsey Millhone have provided me hours of reading pleasure, and whenever a new book comes out with one of these two I still read it. Allison Brennan is another favorite and her books are more hard core. What I mostly mean by that is her books are more graphic, and suspenseful. I love both kinds because I like the variety…just like I do with romance novels.

A few more personal favorites…Lisa Gardner, Sandra Brown, Patricia Cornwell, and Lisa Jackson.

As to the why…I like the puzzle solving, the logic, the suspense, and the bad guy getting caught.

So…are any of you mystery fans? If so who are your favorite authors and why do they appeal to you?

Like you I used to devour mystery books by every author you mentioned. Then my friend loaned me all of her Janet Evanovich books and I was hooked. From there I went to Jill Shalvis and Jennifer Probst to E.L. James and the that’s all I read now. Romance and more romance, or as I tell all my friends smutt books. Love my smutt books!
