Sunday Shout Out: Book Recommendations

Doesn’t that look like a cozy little reading spot? That’s not why you’re here tho is it? You saw book recommendations, and maybe thought you’d find a great book to read right?!? Well, that’s what I’m here for 🙂

I’ve read several books that I didn’t review but I really enjoyed, so I wanted to pass along my shout out for them in case you haven’t had the pleasure yourself…ready?!?

Kat and Stone Bastion have had two books release since Elena and I reviewed No Weddings in Sept. (you can read it here) Book 2 in the series is One Funeral, and continues the story of Cade and Hannah, but be prepared for the heat factor to rise dramatically in this one. MmHmm. Next is book 3, Two Bar Mitzvahs , and I have to warn you that someone from Cade’s past is gonna make you feel more than a little bit ragey as she tries to reclaim what she isn’t entitled to. Seriously…you’re gonna want to put the smack down on this chick! Kat and Stone have crafted a book which is romantic, sexy, and more. All 3 books are an absolute pleasure to read, so go get ’em!!!

Next up is Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. I don’t think it’s possible for CH to write a book that I don’t immediately love, and this book is no exception. I loved it from beginning to end, and I even survived the really angsty part. Miles and Tate have an arrangement which works great…until it doesn’t. I think the blurb sums it up really well…

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

I have to say that I read quite a few of the reviews after I was finished and I was surprised by one complaint I saw several times. The book has a different kind of formatting in places that some found difficult. I did not. It did not take away from my enjoyment, or take me out of the story.

There’s one other thing I want to share with you about this book. Sometimes you just know something. You feel it in your gut. I knew with utter certainty going into this book that I would not cry. Other books by Colleen Hoover have made me cry but I just knew that Ugly Love wouldn’t. Not because I wouldn’t feel the feels, because if CoHo writes something…I know that I’m going  to experience lots of emotions, and I did exactly that. Still, I knew with this one that I wasn’t going to cry. 25% in…no tears. 50-75% dry-eyed.

Then I reached the 94% mark and read one simple sentence that knocked me on my ass, and got the tears started. That one simple sentence is my favorite of the book, and why it had the power to make something happen that I was sure wouldn’t is anybody’s guess. Here it is…

“I didn’t fall in love with you… I flew.”

Anyways…crying aside I truly loved this story, so if you haven’t made the time to read it yet…go on and do it!
