Elena Reviews: MADE by JM Darhower

Corrado Moretti.

The world knows the notorious Kevlar Killer, but few have ever seen what lies beneath his armor. The abused child. The neglected teenager. The broken man. He always did whatever he had to do in order to survive.

It’s kill or be killed.

Throughout his life, he has been there in the shadows, a witness to everything from beginning to end. Bound by loyalty and honor, there’s only one thing he would sacrifice it all for: family.

Never get close. Never get attached. It’s a lesson that has been brutally pounded into him since childhood, but they’re words the DeMarcos make it difficult for him to follow. Through them he finds love and grieves loss, realizing the world isn’t quite as black and white as it’s made out to be.

Made.

“What made you this way?”
“Sweetheart, I wouldn’t even know where to begin.”

Made masterfully completes one of the most emotional series I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. If you’re a fan of the Sempre Series, and if you’ve always loved Corrado and wondered why and how he became the man he is, then this book needs to be on your shelf.

I loved Made for so many reasons, but most of all because my questions regarding Corrado were answered. From the first moment he appeared in Sempre, I knew there was so much more about him than he wanted to convey. He’s always been very mysterious to me, but at the same time he had an aura surrounding him that couldn’t be ignored. And that’s why he’s one of my favorite characters in the Sempre Series. In Sempre he often seem to be very detached, but in Made we really see why he’s the way he is. He learned very early in life that he couldn’t be reigned by emotions, that the heart gets easily broken and that it’s better not to feel… Except for when it comes to Celia. In Made we get to know how he met the woman of his life, how he fell in love with her, and how he got her. Let me tell you that it wasn’t easy for him, especially because of her father… The moments between him and Celia are sweet, intense, passionate — No matter what Corrado does as a job and who he has to account to, Celia is the only one who really owns him. In multiple ways…

“He was suspended in time, nothing existing except for them. There was no anger, no hatred, no violence, no pain. No worry about the future or what would happen tomorrow.”

“I’ll never deserve you, I’ll never be good for you, but I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to be enough. And the simple fact that you’re letting me proves your beauty. because your beauty, Celia, is more than skin deep.”

There were parts in the book that made me cry, especially when it came to Corrado’s childhood. I wanted to strangle his mother and shake his father. Seriously, that family of his will bring out your protective side, because there’s no way it won’t affect you. His mother in particular had a lot to do with how Corrado decided to face life.

We also get to know Vincent first as a child, then as a teenager, and we see how he met the woman that turned his world upside down and, for those who’ve read Sempre, you know what that means…

JM Darhower’ s writing never disappoints and it’s impossible to stop reading when you’ re holding one of her books. I just couldn’ t tear myself away from Made.

I really hope you’ ll decide to pick this book up because there are no words to express how much I loved it. Corrado is a man who was brought to live in the darkness, but who never forgot the light. He is a superhero in more ways than one, no matter what he thinks of himself.

New Release: The Muse by Raine Miller

What if the truth about a famous painting was not what it’s been told to be? What if it was not even the original work and a different painting had inspired its creation? The story of a painting… The motivation behind the work, Flaming June—Romanticist painter, Lord Frederic Leighton’s magnum opus—a woman sleeping in a chair. Hauntingly beautiful, but with its inspiration locked away in the mystery of times past.

1811…

Burdened with family skeletons and agonizing guilt, an unwilling Lord Rothvale, one Graham Everley, returns from a long sojourn in Ireland to attend to the obligations awaiting him in England. The last thing he imagines to find is his destiny, but find her he does. Imogene Byron-Cole, a girl as lovely as her past is tragic. Graham can’t walk away from her, and so he marries her instead, in spite of an increasingly tangled web of troubles that threaten to destroy the very foundation of his entire existence.

As Graham and Imogene start out on their journey together, they express their love through a series of portraits. The art ensnares them completely, and in the end, becomes their salvation, bearing them through their deepest pain of loss, and inspiring a masterwork.

[This will be book one of a three part saga in the Rothvale Legacy Historical Prequel series.]

The Muse – Book I – Graham Everley

The Rogue – Book II – Clive Gravelle

The Stargazer – Book III – Colin Everley
