Amelia and Tamie Review: Captivated by You by Sylvia Day

Gideon calls me his angel, but he’s the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own.

The vows we’d exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows. I felt him slipping from my grasp, my greatest fears becoming my reality, my love tested in ways I wasn’t sure I was strong enough to bear.

At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for. We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we’d had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream…

Captivated by You is the fourth book in the Crossfire series by Sylvia day. It’s been a while and I almost forgot how much I enjoy Sylvia Day’s brilliant writing. This series was supposed to be a trilogy and Sylvia Day decided to write two more books. Guess what? I don’t give a flying hoot. She could write 10 more books about Gideon and I would still read them. The fact that I get five books instead of three is actually a good thing for me. Although Gideon and Eva reached a place where they overcome a lot, there was still too much of the story left to be told, especially in Gideon’s part. I want to know all of those pieces and I think getting two more books gives me a chance to discover them all.

Captivated by You is the continuation of Gideon and Eva’s romance; their shit hot and highly erotic sexcapades, their struggles as individuals and as a couple with traumatic past, their efforts and fights for their relationship. It was told both in Eva and Gideon’s POV. We get a few clues as to Gideon’s past, not much but we did get a glimpse into the man himself. It was amazing to read how Gideon’s try to explain just how much he loves Eva, that he is ready to fight the whole world to keep her safe by his side. As for Eva, I just love that she is one of those female characters that know what she wants and do something to get it with her own hands instead of letting her man doing it for her. She’s still trying to find her way with Gideon and I feel so much pride to see just how strong she is being, what with her past and family drama.

There are still many loose ends still open and I am already excited for the next installment. Captivated by You gets 5 I love Gideon stars from me.

Straight up, I loved Captivated by You. Sylvia Day writes such powerful scenes whether it be emotional or sexual, that I just wanted to keep turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. At the same time I wanted to really savor the story, without rushing through it as I’m prone to do when I’m floving a book. Gideon is one of my favorite book boyfriends because he’s such a complex character. One minute he’s all uber alpha, and the next he can be incredibly sweet. He’s fierce in his love of and for Eva…that never changes. He still has many issues to work on from his past, and he can still be infuriating, but that’s one of the things that keeps him so fascinating. I agree with Amelia that we get a deeper glimpse into him with this one, and he definitely takes a big and very necessary step in Captivated by You.

Eva continues to hold her own, and with a man like Gideon as your one and only that is not an easy thing to do. What they have is intense and at times all consuming. Eva is determined to be what Gideon needs and wants, while remaining strong and independent. Sometimes that need brings conflict into play, and it surely does when she feels blind sided by something Gideon does. It’s a real balancing act for both of them. Sometimes they succeed spectacularly, and other times they fail miserably, but they don’t give up.

Captivated by You gets my highest recommendation. It’s emotional, gut wrenching, passionate story telling at it’s very best, and I can’t wait for the next journey with these two.

“Despite all he’d been through, he had such an amazing capacity to feel and to love. He’d saved me, in so many ways. I was going to do whatever needed to be done to save him, too.”

“You’ll never be without me. We’re going to grow old together. Die together. I’m not going to live a single day without you.”

Amelia and I would love it if you’d share your thoughts…keeping it spoiler free please 🙂

Love Sylvia Days writing and of course with Gideon and Eva she has the prefect angst ridden couple. She could write as many books as she wants on these two and I think she would have an audience. Congratulations on returning Gideon and Eva to the stage again. The only thing I will say it was a little slower than the previous books – as a couple they do a lot more talking.

I read about 4 books a week, all romance. Sylvia Day is my favorite author. I have read books 1-3 several times. Captivated By You, is my favorite so far. When I love a book, I also read it too fast. But that’s ok, since I plan on reading it again soon.
