Tell Me Something Tuesday with Elena: To try or not to try? That is the question.

Tell Me Something Tuesday

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post hated by Rainy Day RamblingsThis week’s topic:

If you read a book by an author and are not overly impressed or even disappointed, how willing are you to try another book by the same author?

Good question…In general, when I read a book by an author who’s new to me, I need to like the book, in order for me to read other books of his/hers. If I’m disappointed, I tend not to try other books by the same author, unless it receives stellar reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. That’s when I give the author another chance.

And you?

About Elena

Literature is my passion. I love reading so much that I spend countless hours in bookstores and libraries. I have a soft spot for poetry and art. I like traveling and discovering new places. I can't do without a book.

Yeah, I don’t tend to read anything else by that same author either. It’s the same for actors/actresses. If I’m now “wowed” by them the first time I see them, I’m not going to seek out another of their works. Which is unfortunate, because perhaps that was early on in their writing/acting career, but you figure…….do I really want to waste my precious time with something that I’ll be disappointed with? So I feel ya.:)

I tend to choose books based on the synopsis. If it grabs me I will buy it even if other books by the same author did nothing for me. The only exception would be if I really disliked one of her or his books. I would hesitate to try them again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. You know?

If I start out with a book from an author that is new to me and the book sucks, I tend to be very cautious about getting another one. I read tons of reviews before I would do so. Now if I like how an author and then I purchase a book that is bad, I think it’s a fluke and will try again. However, if it happens again, that’s it for me with that author.

If I am disappointed by a book, I am very reluctant to read another book by that author. I tend to be a little OCD, when it comes to books. If I start it, I have to finish it, even if it makes me miserable. I love to dive into a series, especially when I fall in love with the characters, but so many times, the series is just a repetition of the same story, with different characters. I have a “blacklist” of authors, I don’t read anymore.
