Making Up For Monday: Dry Spell?

making up for monday

Have you ever stopped reading for a long period of time?  If so, how long and why?

Shockingly the answer for me is yes. It was a really long time ago and it lasted for several years. I still read newspapers and magazines, but no books. To be honest I don’t really remember why on earth I did quit reading novels, because I’d always been a huge reader. Whatever the reason, eventually I found my way back to the books that I love. When I started again it was mostly contemporary fiction, then I went back to my first real love which was mysteries and thrillers. Next I added in paranormal, and finally I began reading romance novels a few years back…and here we are 🙂

What about you?

I had a job change which shifted my schedule. I had been traveling a lot via airplane for my prior job so there was always a book in my bag to help me pass the time at the airport or on the plane, yes, this was pre-smart phone technology. When I shifted to a job that I just commuted too I found that I stopped reading. Just didn’t have the same time available but I’ve shifted that now and read constantly … my Kindle or book is always close by so that even if I’m waiting on the microwave I can read a bit. 🙂

I’ve gone for years myself, too, without reading books I don’t know why I stopped, I guess changes in life, different personal and professional demands, etc. But I am so glad I found my way back to it. Now I wouldn’t know what to do with myself WITHOUT something to read at all times.:)

I stopped reading several years ago, because I had identical twin girls. We already had two boys, and when we brought the girls home from the hospital, life got a little blurry. It was a few years, before I was able to go pee by myself, so you can understand how hard it was to read, back then. Once the kids were all in school, I was able to really dive back into the world of books on a daily basis. Our oldest son is married now, and the other three are teenagers. My husband bought me a Nook for my birthday a few years ago, and now, I have the Nook, and Kindle ap on my Ipad. I don’t know how I kept my sanity, when I didn’t have a book in my hands, but I’m making up for lost time.
