Fifty Shades of Extra’s and Exclusives…

new #officialfifty

I received an amazing package from Universal Studio’s on Friday. It contained all 3 Blu-ray versions of Fifty Shades of Grey from the top U.S. retailers: Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy. Each has something exclusive, and if you haven’t bought a copy yet or you’re wondering whether you should purchase more than one copy maybe this will help. It sure made for a fun weekend of Christian Grey immersion for me 😉

Let’s talk packaging first. I know some peeps don’t give a flying fig about that, and in most cases I don’t either. BUT, since this one is from a favorite book it does for me. Honestly pictures don’t really do them justice but…

50 best buy  50 wal-mart  50 target

For cool factor I give the edge to the steel case from Best Buy. Besides the beautiful cover it’s also very durable, and since this one will be getting a lot of play that’s something to consider.

Only slightly less fabulous is the Wal-Mart version which is almost a book like case, and inside is six pages of photo’s that continue the book feel of it. Very cool, and a nice nod to the book that started it all. The art work on both the front and back is truly amazing.

Coming in a very distant third is the Target version I received which isn’t special at all, but to be fair they do have a deluxe version that comes with a journal. The packaging itself still looks like it would rate 3rd place though.

Special features are next up, and the Target version definitely trumps the others hands down. There’s an extra disc with 30 minutes of exclusive bonus content that I loved, and here’s what you get:

A musical journey through the film including a discussion with composer Danny Elfman

Join author EL James and her fans at a bookstore in Vancouver!

Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson reveal their reaction to seeing the film for the first time.

Three separate pieces, illustrated with EXTENSIVE behind-the-scenes footage:

Jamie Dornan on the Interview scene.

Dakota Johnson on the Negotiation scene.

Sam Taylor-Johnson on the Break-up scene

EL James on the Bar scene, the Helicopter scene and the Glider scene.

Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target all contain the following when you buy the Blu-ray Combo Packs.

Digital Copy of Fifty Shades of Grey – Unrated Version

The World of Fifty Shades of Grey: Christian Grey

The World of Fifty Shades of Grey: Ana

The World of Fifty Shades of Grey: Friends and Family

Behind the Shades

E L James & Fifty Shades

Fifty Shades: The Pleasure of Pain

Christian’s Apartment: 360° Set Tour

Music Video

Behind the Scenes of “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)”

If I had to pick what I enjoyed the most it would be the Favorite Scenes section on the bonus disc from Target, but I loved it all.

Many thanks to Universal for the awesome treat. I saw it 3 times at the cinema, and now I’ll be watching it at home over and over and…

So excited to get (and of course watch) the Blu-ray this past weekend. Only complaint – The Fifty Shades Darker teaser – a teaser that is so short is just unfair.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have the Amazon version (which I had pre-ordered) and the Target Deluxe version (I saw it when I was in the store the day it came out and there was only one left so I snatched it up!). I was curious as to what was different with the Walmart and Best Buy ones but since it’s all about packaging and extra photos, then I think I’m all set with the two I have. Thanks again for taking the time to post it. It was super helpful to me and my wallet. 😉

Wow Tamie thanks for the info. I’m just received the blue-Ray version from Amazon but after what you said, I hope I can still find one at Target. I still haven’t seen it, so my question is, what makes it unrated? Oh one more thing, are you attending the RWA Convention in Dallas this week?

    • Tamie says:

To be honest I don’t quite get the unrated designation. To my eyes it didn’t seem much different than the theatrical version.
I did really enjoy the extended footage at the end tho.
I would think that Target will restock as soon as they can. Lost $$’s isn’t good business after all.
No, I’m not attending RWA. Wish I was tho!
