It’s me this week, and I wanted to talk about two completed stories I’ve read recently that I loved!
One is a an oldie that I stumbled upon when researching BDSM stories for another post. So glad I found it!! The Other One couldn’t be more different…
Just because Rob is just too cute for words, and he makes me smile.
Covert Masquerade by saharafirefly
Author Summary: In the subversive world of organized crime and undercover agents, nothing is what is seems. Will Bella Swan, sent to extract Edward Masen out from under the clutches of the vampire fetish obsessed Volturi Crime Family, succeed in her mission? Or will the lines between business and pleasure become blurred? AH/OOC. HEA
So I didn’t realize when I was reading the story and then writing this post that the story had been pulled from fan fiction.net. I apologize for that, but I do have a pdf version that I can send if you are interested. Just give me your email in the comments. I still love this story enough to share it with you!!
This story was completed back in October of 2012, and I didn’t even download it until July of 2013, so it’s been sitting on my TBR list for years. I didn’t take notice until recently, and decided to read it.
BDSM really isn’t the main part of this story, but it is mentioned because of the type of club that Edward runs for the Volturi. What I loved about this story is the twists and turns that the storyline takes, and of course the chemistry between Bella and Edward.
Excerpt from Chapter 9 Answers:
Isa was suddenly everywhere.
This Mystery Girl–Death Angel, Monkey Wrench, whatever you want to call her–had invaded my thoughts, my dreams, and my peripheral vision. I had only met her (if you could even call it that) that one and only time at V and yet I swear I saw her everywhere. I would catch a glimpse of her–or so I thought–in a crowd, on the street, even back inside the club which was NOT even fucking possible. Then she would disappear just as suddenly as she had appeared. Vanishing into thin air. Like a ghost.
A ghost that haunted me incessantly.
Never had I been effected by someone this way. Never had I wanted to know more about one single human being than I did right now about this Mystery Girl. I couldn’t shake it.
Edward moved through the ranks of the crime family to General Manager of V, the private BDSM club. Bella is the federal agent that is sent undercover to persuade him to leave his life to come back to the real world. He pretty much thought that he had no life to go back to, so it takes Bella’s influence to get him to leave the darkness behind.
Author’s summary: Two strangers struggling from day to day. One trying to overcome the past while the other hides behind it. Will they be able to trust one another enough to share their secrets and accept the truth despite what they’ve been through?
So here’s the thing with this story. Edward is not like what I am used to reading about. He kind of reminds me of the Edward in Puddle Jumping, but he is not autistic. He had an accident that we get bits and pieces of through out the story, that has changed him both mentally and physically. Bella has her own issues as well. Edward’s first real step back into the real world is getting a job at a restaurant owned by Jasper. Bella is a frequent customer, who sits at the same table, but keeps to herself. Because Edward doesn’t have the nerve to talk to Bella right away, he names her Ania. In the meantime of course!
This is the first story from these wonderful ladies that I’ve read, and I loved it! Everything about the writing and the story is done very well. Edward and Bella change and support each other through dealing with their pasts and moving forward as well.
Excerpt from Chapter 8:
I’m in the kitchen when I hear the bell on the front door chime. Quickly but quietly, I crack open the swinging door to take a peek. It’s like my soul knows when she’s near. I grip the door tightly, bracing myself for whatever comes next–gratitude, surprise, happiness, rejection.
She has her head bent down as she walks towards the table, almost as if she’s on autopilot, stepping to the side to avoid a chair, until she abruptly stops. Her head snaps up, and she looks at the table for what feels like minutes and then turns to look around the cafe’, waiting for someone to take ownership of the object that’s intruding her personal space. I close the door a little more, only leaving a slight crack, because I’m not ready for her to know it’s me…yet.
Maybe she already does.
I walk out the back door, allowing myself a few minutes of deep breathing and trying to center myself.
I did it.
Of course, I’ve yet to talk to her and let her verbally know how I feel, but I made a step, and right now, it feels huge.
Steadying myself, I make my way back into the cafe’ to check on my tables and try to decide how to handle the flower situation. When I push my way through the kitchen door, though, “Ania” takes care of it for me by turning around in her seat and blinding me with a smile. It’s real and genuine, better than the one she gave Jasper the day he talked to her. It almost reaches her eyes, and I can’t help but smile back at her. The blush that creeps up on her cheeks makes mine heat up just the same. I feel like a chameleon in her presence. What she feels, I feel. The pull she’s had on me since day one I swear, the smile she’s still wearing says more than a thousand words. I wish I could take a picture or commission a painting so that I could remember this moment for the rest of my life.
It is a very sweet story that is full of UST, and I loved the ending. I got to meet the authors a couple of years ago at the first Twific meet up in Chicago with Michelle. They were funny and sweet! I should have read their work sooner.
I am always looking for fics to read, so please rec what you’re reading in the comments!!
Happy Memorial Day weekend if you live in the US!
