To be honest, I made Rob call Annie and give her the stink eye...

You’re up, Annie….

I read Sky High by Amanda Weaver and loved it. She’s one of my favorite authors and she did not disappoint. All three stories were romantic, sexy, and fun.

Book Summary:

Two seasoned business travelers… A pair of feuding ex-friends… A world-weary journalist and a girl looking for a new start—all traveling to Mexico on the same flight. A misbehaving volcano disrupts their plans…and their lives. Love can bloom in the most unexpected places, even sky high.

Three stand-alone novellas.

I can’t wait for the first novel in her new historical romance series due to be published in January 2016.

cinder book

I also read Cinder, the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer,  and enjoyed it very much, I liked Cinder and the prince, and the tie-in to the fairy tale is well done and subtle.

Book summary:

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

4 stars

I gave it 4 stars mostly because it leaves you hanging a bit. There’s not really a cliff hanger, but not much is resolved. I’ve started the next in the series, Scarlet.

So I’m still reeling/recovering from my read of Grey by E. L. James. I decided to savor my time with Christian, by reading and listening to the audio version at the same time. It was amazing to hear Zachary read as Christian. He nailed it for sure.

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock lately, here is the book summary.

See the world of Fifty Shades of Grey anew through the eyes of Christian Grey.

In Christian’s own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world.

Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.

Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?

Here’s my take. If you thought that you knew Christian from reading the series, you will be surprised at what you don’t know. This is definitely not a “re-telling” of Fifty Shades of Grey, in my eyes.

Christian Grey has always held a special place in my heart, because he was the first “Dom” male character I read about. My perspective of his dark nature has been altered by reading this book. His past is haunting, sad and gut-retching, and yet this is still a love story.

I am relieved that my feelings towards Ana have not changed. I still love and admire her. I would love to read the rest of the series from Christian’s point of view, but that is not going to happen I’m sure. A girl can dream right?

Definitely 5 intensely powerful stars from me, and I would definitely recommend listening to the audio version. It’s so so good!!

The Dead List cover

Jennifer L. Armentrout is pretty cool, because she decided to post a stand-alone book for her fans to read for free called The Dead List.

From the author’s Goodreads post:

The Dead List is a full standalone novel, coming in at roughly 93,000 words. It’s a Young Adult Romantic Suspense Yes. Lots of Romance. Sort of like Don’t Look Back, but a throwback to movies like Scream and the sort of campy fun ones. Think I Know What You Did Last Summer meets Scream. But with more romance.

That’s all I’m going to say about the book. I think a blind read is something different. A little fun.

There are no plans at this time to sell it or put it in print soon. I probably will one day, but the point of this is that it’s free for you guys.

The Dead List is a raw novel, meaning it hasn’t been through copy editing. You’ll going to see typos and some strange things. You’re actually going to see what a book of mine looks like before copy editors get their hands on it. Hopefully there are no random ‘shits’ where there is supposed to be ‘shirts’.

I will be posting a chapter or a couple of chapters at a time, as one does on Wattpad. Chapters will be added every Wednesday, Friday and then Sunday as long as I’m not traveling or, you know, acts of God clause.

You can find me on Wattpad by going HERE
– You can download Wattpad on your phone or tablet
– Or read on your computer”

I loved the chemistry between the main characters. Seriously, Jensen is really hawt!! I honestly couldn’t figure out who was the killer until the very end. The guessing was half the fun.

If you are looking for a fun summer read that only JLA can do, then I highly recommend this book. It’s free people!! 4 fun stars from me!!
