Booking Through Thursday: Vacay Time

booking through thursday

It’s summertime and for lots of peeps that means vacations, so I think this is a great topic!

When you travel, do you bring one book with you? Or a pile of them?

And, is that pile still a load of paper to lug around? Or do you use an e-book reader like a Kindle or your iPad to help carry the load? (Because, even if you prefer paper, it can get heavy when you’re traveling!)

I’ve had a Kindle going on 5 years now. I got my first one as a Christmas present from my youngest son. Best present ever for an extreme book lover like myself! After I received it, I took it everywhere I went. It certainly made my traveling load much easier. I still love print books though, and I don’t think that will ever change. When I get to travel…which is not ever enough, I take my Kindle, but I also take at least one paperback book with me too. Since I now also listen to audio books I have a small tablet that comes with as well, because while I love my iPad it weighs too much to carry around in just one hand.

So, what about you?

Same for me. I love the feel of a book in my hands, turning pages and occasionally flipping to the front to ogle the cover so I always bring at least one ‘real’ book with me on vacation. However, for all around convenience, a Kindle can’t be beat. I like having multiple options at my fingertips and think I would go into withdrawals if my K-baby wasn’t within arm’s reach.

I take my Kindle everywhere, and I do mean everywhere! It’s always in my bag, like a wallet would be. Just like you I don’t travel enough, but when I do, I don’t take actual books, only because I’m afraid they’re going to get ruined or I’ll lose it or forget it somewhere. I still do buy paperbacks of my favorite books, and that will never stop. I have so many books I don’t know where to store them anymore, My room is looking like a hoarder’s room. No, that’s not a good thing at all!

bwahahaha! I know exactly what you mean.
I have 2 huge bookcases and a small one stuffed completely full, and books all over the house.
Still, I won’t give up buying my faves in print!

I don’t feel any loyalty to print books. I got a nook, years ago, and I was hooked, immediately. I only kept a few faves, and gave away all of my other books. Now, I have the nook, and the kindle ap on my I pad, and I never want to read any other way. If I could have my I pad surgically implanted on my hand, I would. I never leave home without it.

When we planned a 3 week road trip 4 years ago, I knew I had to buy a Kindle. I love it and don’t go anywhere without it and in fact, when looking for a purse, it has to pass the Kindle test. But I also take a paperback when we travel, for those just-in-case times.
