Samantha Young has been one of my all time favorite authors since I began reading the On Dublin Street series; so I was really excited to read Hero. It was on my dying to read list and when I finally got to read it; I was not disappointed. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. It’s a perfect combination of romance, suspense and comedy. I had a blast reading this book!

Alexa Holland is an assistant to a successful photographer. She’s really good at her job. But a recent major tragedy in her life has uncovered a dirty family secret that makes her feel guilty and has some amends to make. Her first encounter with Caine Carraway didn’t exactly go as planned and long story short; she got fired from her job. This leads her to becoming his PA. Even though she knows the job will be rough, what with Caine resentment toward her and all, she’s determine to prove to him that her family’s past doesn’t define her. I love Alexa’s character; she’s a smartass, funny and can be very stubborn. One thing that got me really like her though, is because she’s a tough woman even after all that she’s been through. She didn’t let the weight of her problems get her down, she faces them head on. She also didn’t put up with Caine’s bs, which makes their banter hilarious and entertaining.

Caine Carraway is a well-known successful businessman. The world knows him as an ambitious and ruthless man and a charming playboy. For me, Caine’s character is really tough to like at the beginning. Everything about him just screams “asshole” to me. A hot one, but still… He does everything in his power to make Alexa’s life difficult. As the story progresses though, we discover what’s underneath his exterior; an amazing and lovable man. And just like that, he is now one of my favorite book boyfriends.

With a strong and sassy heroine and a dominant alpha male; I got hooked from the first chapter. Alexa and Caine were off the chart hot together. I could just feel the sexual tension radiating between them. When it finally combusts…oh, lordy. I love the love/hate relationship, the banter, the angst and the fighting. It just made the sex scenes that much hotter (and I’m talking about office-sex-scene-hot here, people!). The characters and story are very well-written. Their painful shared history added layers and depth to this book. Definitely one of Samantha Young’s best works. It is a sexy, exciting and entertaining stand alone novel. Hero gets a 4 sassy heroine stars from me!

“Say you’re mine. Right here, right now, you’re mine,” he growled.

“You’re the one real think in my life right now… You should know I don’t want to let that go.”

“…sometimes you’ve got to let yourself be vulnerable even when it’s the scariest thing in the world.”

”I see who you are because…we’re not so different, you and I. We both deserve happiness.”

”I’m not looking for more. I’m not looking for a great adventure. I’m not looking, because I found it. You are my more. You are my great adventure.”
