The second in the Chasing Fire series, about a pain too deep to forgive and a passion too hot to forget…
Alessandra Sinclair knows that Hudson Chase is the last man she should want. The boy from the wrong side of the tracks has grown into a man who would do anything to get ahead, even if it means breaking Allie’s heart. But whenever she’s near him, the attraction between them is undeniable. And now that they’re working together, keeping her distance from Hudson is almost as impossible as keeping her feelings in check…
Hudson already lost Allie once and he refuses to lose her again. He’s determined to use their new business partnership to rekindle the spark he knows is still there. Only the closer he gets to winning her over, the clearer it becomes there are still secrets that could tear them apart for good…
I really enjoyed the first book in the Chasing Fire series by Ann Marie Walker and Amy K. Rogers. As debut novels go it was a real success to me as a reader. I love all kinds of book boyfriend types, and Hudson Chase is one of my favorites. He was a bad boy who turned his life around after he lost the girl he was in love with. He became uber successful in the business world through hard work and I’m sure some ruthlessness. He’s a strong character who is confident…some may say arrogant, he can also be very controlling and possessive. But, he also has a romantic softer side, and I like reading about a guy who can be both hard and soft, and who has imperfections. That’s the kind of guy who keeps me interested and wanting more!
At the end of Remind Me, we were left with not one, but two cliffhangers. Both were emotionally devastating for Allie Sinclair. Both could have been enough to keep Hudson and Allie apart forever. Thank heavens that isn’t what happened. They didn’t immediately go the route of hearts and flowers. Nope. Hudson had to work at gaining Allie’s trust back. He had to prove what kind of man he really is, and that he really does love her. It’s such a fantastic read to go through that journey with them.
I’ve said many times that my favorite authors are those who can make me feel all kinds of emotions while I’m reading a story. Who have the ability to keep me in the moment the whole way, and Ann Marie and Amy did an amazing job of that with Release Me. They made me feel the passion and heat between Hudson and Allie, they made me laugh and smile during silly and tender times, they made my heart ache a few times too. That’s what I live for when I read, and they delivered it all. They tell a compelling story about two very complicated people, and they do so with great writing and unexpected twists and surprises. They bring the heat but they don’t let it overwhelm the storyline, and I’m really grateful for that. It can be a fine line to write great sex scenes consistently without sacrificing what I believe to be more important, and that’s to keep the focus on what the characters are going through and moving the story along in an interesting way.
There are two other characters that deserve a mention. Allie’s best friend Harper and Hudson’s brother Nick. Harper is the kind of best friend we all need and want and she’s a character I’d like to get to know even better, but it’s Nick that really caught my attention and intrigues me. I loved seeing the relationship between the brothers growing stronger, and Nick impressed me with how far he’s come from the person we first met.
There are a lot of scenes I can’t wait for you to read. Be on the lookout for an elevator, Christmas shopping, cookies, and a train ride. They’re my favorites!
As much as I enjoyed the first book, I really floved this second part even more. I think the authors took it to another level, and I can’t wait for the conclusion to the series! I’m giving Release Me a very high recommendation and book crush status. It does end on a cliffhanger. I didn’t feel as gutted by it as I did when the first book ended, but it’s most definitely going to have you thinking…WTF?!?
