Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.
One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.
Lick is the first book in the Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott. Rock star romance is not usually my cup of coffee, but this book ended up in my recommended list on Goodreads. Boy, am I glad to have read it! I had so much fun reading the entire series.
Evelyn Thomas has her life mapped out. She’s an ordinary girl who lives a safe and boring life. She decided to have some fun and celebrate her 21st birthday in Vegas. She woke up after a night in Vegas with a very bad hang-over and with barely a recollection of what happened the night before. Things got more complicated when she realized that she’s got a huge diamond ring on her finger, a tattoo on her ass and a gorgeous tattooed man taking care of her with a tender and worried expression. Her life is turned upside down from then on. Evelyn is a smart, funny and down-to-earth heroine. I like her character and amazed at how well she handled such a complicated situation. Her character is one of a very few heroines that don’t give me a headache. Everything is just so easy with her. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows with her, but how she handles everything just seems right to me and not too over-the-top.
David Ferris is a tattooed guitarist/song writer hottie of a famous band called Stage Dive. Unlike Evelyn, he wasn’t too drunk and knew exactly what he was doing in Vegas. He falls head over heels for our heroine from the first time they meet. The fact that Evelyn can’t remember one of the most important nights in their life broke his heart. David is definitely a drool worthy hero. I love how gentle he is with Evelyn and everything he does in his power to win Evelyn’s affection.
I love how David and Evelyn’s relationships progress over time. Although they’re very young in age, how they handle everything is pretty mature. They talked about their issues instead of ignoring them and they work together to get through it. And because all that was happening in their relationship, I feel like their happy ending is very well deserved.
As for the story itself, Lick is somewhat predictable. But, for me it’s one of the things that I love about this book. This is one of my light-read books, one that doesn’t give me an emotional roller coaster and exhaustion. I love mentally draining books, but once in a while I just love to lie down, with a cup of coffee in one hand and a book with such a sweet story on the other hand. The supporting characters are very entertaining too; it makes me excited to read the next books in the series which will tell the stories of the other members of Stage Dive.
Lick gets 4 Lickable Stars from me!
“Love isn’t always smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful,” he said. “Doesn’t mean it still isn’t the most incredible thing that can ever happen to you.”
“But I married you, Evelyn, because you made sense to me. We make sense. We’re a whole lot better together than apart.”
“There wasn’t enough room in me for all the feelings he inspired.”
“Only this was real, me and him together. Everything else could come and go. I’d found what was worth fighting for.”
“It’s you and me against the world.”
