Book Beginnings on Fridays…
Book Beginnings on Fridays is a meme hosted by Rose City Reader. A couple of Fridays a month, I will share the first sentence (or so) of the book I am currently reading, along with my initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
I started a new book this week that was recommended by a coworker. When he saw me reading at lunch all of time, he asked if he could recommend something to me. I am always up that!! If you love dystopian stories like Under the Never Sky or The Host, this book is perfect!
Illustrated Temptations: Darkest Before Dawn by Maya Banks
Darkest Before Dawn by Maya Banks is the 10th KGI book from the series. It’s been a long time since I read something like this and I quite enjoyed it.
The moment I read the synopsis I just knew I had to read it. I guess I’m a sucker for a suspense-thriller-romantic kind of story. The writing is great as usual but too descriptive to my liking. Though I know some people appreciate that. After the first few pages of the book I was totally glued and I just couldn’t put it down until it was over.
It’s beautiful, it’s ugly, it’s raw and intriguing. All the feels! Totally worth reading.
Check out some of my illustrations.

New Release Teasers! Pucked Up by Helena Hunting
Miller “Buck” Butterson has been banging his way through life ever since a puck to the face fixed his messed up front teeth, and he was drafted into the NHL during his first year of college. After five years of deflecting goals on the ice and scoring them with puck bunnies across the Continental US and parts of Canada, Miller is ready for a girlfriend. A real girlfriend of the non-bunny variety. One he takes on dates and doesn’t jump into bed with after five seconds of conversation.
Miller thinks he’s found that woman in his teammate’s sister. Except, unlike Alex Waters, center, team captain and all round nice guy—who happens to be dating his step-sister—Miller’s manwhore reputation is well earned, and not blown out of proportion by the media. Beyond that minor detail, Miller doesn’t know the first thing about having a girlfriend. But he’s determined to make it happen.
What he doesn’t take into account is the amount of time and effort relationships require, or that constantly letting bunnies take selfies with him to post all over social media isn’t going to win him any points in the boyfriend department. Miller learns—not so quickly—that if he wants to make Sunshine “Sunny” Waters fall for him, he going to have to do a whole lot more than show her his stick skills in the bedroom.

Last week I bought the hardcover version of the Twilight Special Tenth Anniversary/Life and Death Dual Edition, for a birthday present to myself. I was compelled to reread Twilight again first. This is probably my 4th or 5th read mind you. It had been years though, and I was more than pleasantly surprised at how much I still loved it! Stephanie’s descriptive writing style and her amazing characters, namely Edward Cullen still held my attention. I am now going to start Life and Death, Twilight Reimagined…
Conversations Between Authors…
What two authors (dead or alive) would you love to get in a room together, just so you could listen to the conversation?
And what made you put those two together? Are they going to be entertainingly contentious or bosom buddies at first sight?
