Katiebird Reviews Hannah Both Ways by Rosie Greenway + Giveaway

Hannah Both Ways by Rosie Greenway

A devastating Twitter prank yanks Hannah out of the popular crowd and turns her into the high school’s best bad joke. Determined to finish the year and graduate, Hannah must keep the humiliating details from her impulsive mother—who just might pack up their belongings and move. Again.

Hannah hovers below the radar by submersing herself in a new routine. Post-it notes, Dewey Decimal numbers and carefully planned trips to the library are her refuge. That is, until a persistent new student invades her space. Lucas has complete disregard for Hannah’s cynicism and snark, and he seems to know the bullies who targeted her. Can Hannah trust him, or is he part of another ploy to torment her?

I was thrilled when Rosie contacted me about her new book! It is a privilege to be asked to be a part of the Blog Tour to promote Hannah Both Ways, because Rosie is an amazing writer and the story touches on a very important issue.

I don’t have children and the thought of raising one in this insane world of social media ruling everything that we do, scares me. Cyber bullying is extremely relevant especially to young adults who live on Facebook and Twitter.

This Young Adult story is beautifully written in Hannah’s point of view, so we get to see the world through Hannah. She loves reading and finds solace in her school library. Every night the process of selecting a book to read at lunch gives her purpose. A reason to get through the day. Until Lucas invades.

That’s how she sees it. An invasion. He isn’t perfect, but he is pretty amazing. I love his family too. Being the new kid gives him a choice. He could choose to believe the rumors, or make his own decision.  He has his own story to tell, and Hannah lets her walls down because of him.

Knowing the author like I do, she has a thing for words, and libraries too. It’s the weight of words for her, and you can feel it and see it in this story. It is one of my favorite things about her. There are layers in this book that make it the perfect read.

“People can lose their lives in libraries. They ought to be warned.”
― Saul Bellow (Author of Herzog)

favorite quotes

“When you hear the same rumours about yourself so many times, you start to believe they’re true,” he says, staring at a blank spot on the wall across the room. “Anyway, it doesn’t matter. Whatever happened before isn’t important, and I wouldn’t like you more or feel different about you if it hadn’t happened. To me, you’re Hannah, both ways.”- Lucas

4 stars

I give this book 4 palindrome stars and put it on my “favorites” and “top shelf fantastic reads” shelves on Goodreads.

***I was given an ARC of this book from the author and publisher for an honest review.***

I love Young Adult stories and one where bullying is involved is just icing on the cake. Bullying is such horrible reality for some. I relish reading a story where the hero or heroine overcomes his/her tormentors which I hope happens in “Hannah Both Ways”.
