Musing Mondays (5/2)

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Name your least favorite plot device employed by way too many books that you actually enjoyed, otherwise.

I think my least favorite is the accidental pregnancy. Yes, I know it happens in real life, but when I’m reading a romance novel I want the couple involved to have some real time together once they’ve overcome all the stuff the author puts them through before adding a baby into the mix. I’m not anti-children…down the road…say in an epilogue.

What about you?

I agree. Unplanned pregnancy. I’ve gotten to the point that I can see it coming and I actually dread it. (Gee, they are talking WAY too much about condoms…). I don’t mind epilogue kids once the HEA is complete though. I find those endearing. Kristen Ashley does a great job with those.

The unplanned pregnancy sucks, but I really hate the “misunderstood kiss”. You know, when the “ex” or the “just friends”, finally makes a move, only to have the girlfriend walk around the corner, at just the right time. Surprise! Then of course, she totally misunderstands, the friendly kiss. The explanation/reunion can last from one page, to one chapter. “Oh baby, you know it didn’t mean anything. You just misunderstood. Let me explain.” Puhleeeeez.
