Katiebird Survived Bookcon!

You would think that authors would visit Chicago all of the time, but not so much. So when I saw the ad on Goodreads for Bookcon, I bought my ticket right away! So many authors I was excited to see, that I was seriously thinking about loading all of my books into a wheel barrel just to see if I could them all signed.

What I didn’t expect was just how many people felt the same way, because the lines were crazy, everywhere, all of the time. Seas of people…. BUT I survived. Lived to tell the tale and take pictures of course!

This was what we dealt with all day! Crowds. Crowds. More Crowds.

There were highlights for sure which is what I want to share, but with an event this big, you would think there would be more organization. I just don’t think they expected as many as people as they did, because if you weren’t standing in the right place at the right time, you could miss out.

Check out all of the cool stuff!

First let me say, all of the authors that we met were great. Kind, funny, sweet and honestly just wonderful in so many ways.

Ransom Riggs

His editor walked around with trays of cookies to everyone! They also served milk and tea! He was so freaking cool. Everyone just swooned…

Tahereh Mafi  Author of Shatter Me series

Tahereh was so nice. When I told her how much I loved Shatter Me and that I was glad she was still writing, she asked if I was writer!

My friend Susan chased Laini down right before her book signing and got a great picture also. She said she was so nice and didn’t hesitate to talk to her.

I was lucky enough to get an exclusive extended excerpt, but didn’t get to have it autographed by JLA. We stepped away to grab something to eat, and missed our opportunity… She is really pretty in person!

Problem with Forever

Released on Tuesday this week!

V Roth

Native Chicagoan Veronica Roth signed autographs for two hours. The only author who did that.

I would like to say that I would go back again, but not until they figure out how to manage so many people. 90% of the fans didn’t get to meet/get autographs from their favorite authors, because there wasn’t enough time. Only signing for only an hour just doesn’t cut it with the amount of people that were there.

Susan and I did enjoy spending the day being book lovers! Just not line or crowd lovers…

About katiebird

I am a huge reader of young adult, new adult, and paranormal romances. I also have an acute fondness of Robert Thomas Pattinson. I love that I get to share with everyone my love of reading.
