Katiebird Reviews Stay Until We Break by Mercy Brown

Stay Until we break cover

Stay Until We Break (Hub City Romance) by Mercy Brown

What happens on the road stays on the road in the latest New Adult novel from the author of Loud Is How I Love You.

Twenty-one-year-old Sonia Grant, a business major, has big plans for a career in the music industry. So when she’s offered the job of tour manager for her best friend’s band, she jumps at the chance for some real life experience. When her number one crush, bassist Cole McCormack, jumps her the first night on tour, she hopes she’s in for three weeks of some hot backstage action, too. But Cole turns out to have more up his sleeve than she or anyone realized.

Nobody knows that Cole is on the road to party like a rock star one last time before quitting his dream to take a more practical job and settle down. What he hadn’t planned was to fall in love with a girl he believes is out of his league. Will Cole play out the rock star fantasy he thinks Sonia wants from him, or tell her the truth and take the chance that she’ll either break his heart or make an even bigger dream come true?

You know that advise that people always give up-and-coming authors/writers? Write what you know? Well, Mercy Brown knows music and being on the road, because she lived it, and it shows in her writing.  You don’t have to be musician to understand what it’s like to play on stage in front of a live audience. She writes it so clearly that it gives me goose bumps…

So technically I don’t think you have to read Loud is How I Love You first, before reading this book, but there are some things referenced that are mostly about the secondary characters. I do think that you will probably want to after though. LOL

The storyline picks up where the last book ends, only this time Sonia and Cole share their points 0f view. Oh to be 20 something years old again and travel around the country for weeks in a van with musicians plays amazing rock music. I love the music referenced in this book, so it really takes me back.

Sonia’s voice felt so real to me, because while she isn’t on stage playing every night, she does describe how I felt watching really hot guys on stage playing their hearts out. Cole’s voice also felt genuine, because he lived a hard life and music was his salvation. Seriously, if Cole McCormack showed up at my door needed a place to crash, I would definitely not turn him away or make him sleep on the floor.

favorite quotes

Everything disappears but his sweet, warm mouth, my hand on the back of his neck, pulling him even closer as I slide my tongue in, all the while his bass is pressed against me, with his hands holding it in my lap. I nearly freak with how hard I’m crushing him because I am actually making out with Cole while he’s still got his hands on his bass. Lifetime sexual goal achieved.

You’re going to go after that dream for both of us. And then one day when it all comes true, I want you to look back and remember me as the open door–not the cage.

“What else did you imagine?” His voice is low and rough and oh, so fucking sexy. “Tell me what happens next.””You already know, ” I whisper. “All the very good, very wrong things.”

This story made me laugh out loud and cry sweet tears. Music affects me, and this story is surrounded in it. It’s the sound track for sure.

In fact, here are some amazing girl fronted bands to rock out to…

Ok. I’ll stop. Just go read this book….

I give this book 5 sunshiny stars, and put it on my “favorites” and “top shelf fantastic reads” shelf on Goodreads.

****I was given an ARC from the publisher and author to review. Excerpts are from that copy.****
