Katiebird Reviews Roman Crazy by Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton

Roman Crazy (Broads Aboard #1) by Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds—and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello was the man—the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello…

Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.

I simply loved, adored and completely lost my heart over this book. It was exactly what I needed to read now that summer has come to an end…

First, Alice Clayton. I adore her, and she totally owned the beginning of this book. I mean, who else starts a book with…

I was staring at a penis.

Next, the setting is Italy, specifically Rome, and having been there, I was totally brought right back to that beautiful city. I mean, Alice and Nina’s writing was spot on in their descriptions. If I had to narrow the reason down as to why you should read this book, it would be for that alone. The cobblestone streets, narrow alleyways, vespas, food markets, wine, espresso…so, so amazing! *happy sigh*

Borghese Gardens

In the book, Avery and Daisy live and work in Rome. It’s pretty interesting how they fit right into the Roman culture. I remember thinking that Italians really know how to live, eat and love.

“I was swept up in the city’s energy. It seeped into every pore, moving me along like a marionette; by the time we reached the restaurant, I had sensory overload in the best possible way. The restaurant looked to be about the same as a dozen others that we passed. Brick, old as dirt, and full of life.”

And Marcello…He’s just…everything. Delicious. Handsome. Masculine. Romantic. Sexy. I could go on and on.

I mean, this is a book from Alice Clayton, so there is sex. Sex in Italy. *fanning self* Alice and Nina know how to write funny and sexy. But this story also has heart, and it’s underlying message is don’t live with regrets. When you get a second chance at life or love, you just have to go for it! Oh any one more thing…go to Italy!

More pics of Rome are ahead…

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:

“It’s impossible to have a bad meal here. And you walk so much, you don’t gain weight. It’s like Disney World for foodies.”

“I’m sure that someday, someone somewhere will fall for your bullshit. But today is not that day.”

“We knew from the beginning that we were on borrowed time, but for those four months I was the real me. He let me fly.”

5 stars

I give this book 5 deliciously amazing stars, and put it on my  “books that own me”“favorites”, “top shelf fantastic reads” shelves on Goodreads.

***I was given an ARC of this book from the publishers and Netgalley. The excerpts are from the that copy.***

Congratulations to SusanRSM for winning the book giveaway we had last Friday! She won three books from Gallery Books publishing. Beautiful by Christian Lauren, Roman Crazy by Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton, and Nothing More by Anna Todd.

Great review! I adored this book as well. How can you not love the writing combo of Alice & Nina? 😉 I’ve never been to Italy but if it wasn’t already on my bucket list, this book would put it at the top! Here’s hoping that the next book in the series is just as funny & heartfelt–and maybe about Daisy…

Nina & Alice captured everything about Rome and living in Italy beautifully. I am Italian and am passionate about everything Italian so could relate to every feeling, meal and place referred to in the book so perfectly. The story was funny, emotional, sexy and kept me interested from the very first word to the very last. I truly hope the write a continuation of Daisy and Marcello’s story even if it’s only a novella. Bravissimi Nina e Alice 😘🇿🇦😘🇮🇹
