18 and Over: Judging You…

Question of the Week: Judging a book by its cover. We’ve all done it. But have you ever judged a book wrongly based on its cover? What book have you loved that based on the cover, wouldn’t have normally picked up? What book have you read, based on the cover alone, that disappointed you?

Elena’s Picks: Unforgettable Fictional Couples (part 1)

When I read a book of the Romance genre, what draws me in the most is the nature of the relationship between the couple. As you all know, I read a lot of books of this genre and I’ve grown fond of some couples in such a way that it’s difficult for me to let them go. Here are some of those fictional couples that I can’t stop thinking about :

Till death do us part….

I love weddings both in the real world and in the fictional one. Something about white dresses, the ceremony, the vows, the couple declaring their love in front of God and their families… Yes, I get all emotional.

I love it when stories have two lovers marrying each other. Weddings can be at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of a book and I’ve always liked how writers describe the ceremony in different ways, with their own writing style. Some focus on the ceremony, some on the feelings of the couple…I’ve always found that each wedding scene conveys something new and different to the reader and they’re all  beautiful and touching.

Today I want to share some of my favorites with you :

***SPOILER ALERT : some scenes may be spoilers for those who haven’t read the books, so don’t read if you don’t want to be spoiled. ***

Review: Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both a fantasy and a nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice, to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life, has become the thread from which the fate of two tribes hangs.

Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella’s life – first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse – seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed… forever?

Review: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

“BELLA?”

Edward’s soft voice came from behind me. I turned to see him spring lightly up the porch steps, his hair windblown from running. He pulled me into his arms at once, just like he had in the parking lot, and kissed me again.

This kiss frightened me. There was too much tension, too strong an edge to the way his lips crushed mine—like he was afraid we had only so much time left to us.

As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob—knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

Review: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Isabella Swan’s move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger. Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Come on in and join Katiebird, Elena, Tamie and I as we discuss the book that started it all…
