My Book Boyfriend: Christian Grey

***Adult Content***

Christian Grey…Christian Grey…Christian Grey…OOPs…Hi there! You caught me daydreaming didn’t you?

The thing is with this fantasy boyfriend? I just see his name, or say it in my head and I lose all coherent thought. Logic and reason?!?  Nope…gone…out the door.  There are some characters that are written so well that they just own a piece of you.  Christian Grey is one of those for me. I guess I’ve read well over a thousand books in my lifetime, yet my list of truly memorable literary men is actually pretty short considering that.  O, I’m not saying that I don’t remember a lot of them, but the ones that keep me thinking of them? Continuously? Wanting just one more book? And then just one more? The ones I want for a fantasy boyfriend foreveh?  Well it’s under 10 to be honest…and Christian Grey is mighty high on that list. In fact, he shares the top spot with one other,  so yeah…I have mad love for him.

I first discovered Christian aka Fifty in August of 2011. I know, I know… I was late to the party on that one, but in a way I’m glad I was. Mostly becuz I was able to read the series without a whole lotta time in between the books coming out. I’m so impatient and greedy that way…greedy…hmmm…that’s an apt term for how I feel about Fifty. I admit it. I want him. I want all of him in all of his Fifty Fuckedupedness<-<- is that even a real word?!?…never mind, it doesn’t matter.

Let’s discuss Christian…something I could do all day long. First off his name. I flove his name. I love saying it in my head over and over. There’s just something about it that calls to me. I like men that have polysyllabic rather than    monosylabic names. * Oooo… big words.*  For some reason I just find them much more sensual and erotic sounding. I for one would never shorten his name to Chris…EGADS! Heaven forbid. I’ve noticed that when I love the names an author chooses I’m much more likely to respond positively to that character. Does that happen to you too?

I need some Fifty…and an editorial.

I don’t think an explanation is necessary as to why…but I need some Fifty today. An editorial follows.

Here are just a couple of quickies…altho the words Fifty and quickie have no relationship to each other at all 😉

These are all taken from Fifty Shades Darker by E L James-

“So help me God, Anastasia, if you don’t eat, I will take you across my knee here in this restaurant, and it will have nothing to do with my sexual gratification. Eat!”

” Appearances can be deceptive,” he says quietly. “I’m anything but fine. I feel like the sun has set and not risen for five days, Ana. I’m in perpetual night here.”

“Do you know how much you mean to me?” he breathes against my ear.  “No,” I gasp. He smiles against my neck, and his fingers curl around my jaw and throat, holding me fast for a moment. “Yes you do. I’m not going to let you go.”                           I groan as he picks up speed. “You are mine, Anastasia.” “Yes, yours,” I pant.  “I take care of what’s mine,” he hisses and bites my ear.  I cry out.  “That’s right, baby, I want to hear you.” He snakes one hand around my waist while his other hand grasps my hip, and he pushes into me harder, making me cry out again. And the punishing rhythm starts. His breathing grows harsher and harsher, ragged, matching mine. I feel the familiar quickening deep inside. Jeez again!

I am just sensation. This is what he does to me- takes my body and possesses it wholly so that I think of nothing but him. His magic is powerful, intoxicating. I’m a butterfly caught in his net, unable and unwilling to escape. I’m his…totally his. “Come on, baby,” he growls through gritted teeth and on cue, like the sorcerer’s apprentice I am, I let go, and we find our release together.

Possible Movie Deal for E L James, Author of the Fifty Series?!?

An article is being circulated on twitter that has her fans beside themselves with glee.

Here is the article from Publisher’s Weekly

British Erotica Series Catches Hollywood’s Eye
By Rachel Deahl

One of the things Hollywood scouts are buzzing about coming off the holidays is, surprisingly, an erotica series by a British TV executive which  has garnered strong word-of-mouth via GoodReads and other fan sites. An insider said the series, called Fifty Shades of Grey (which is also the title of the first book), is “being compared to Nine and a Half Weeks” and is making the rounds among producers in Los Angeles. Author E.L. James published the books without an agent through a small former writers community called The Writer’s Coffee Shop, and told PWshe has sold approximately 30,000 copies since releasing the first book in May, 2011.

James is represented by film British film and TV agent Valerie Hoskins and, still, does not have a literary agent. Hoskins confirmed that there is “huge buzz” on the books, largely from American producers and, now, from a few larger American publishers. The books are out in trade paper and e-book, and available through a number of outlets, inclduing the Kindle store. The series, which is set in the U.S., follows a woman named Anastasia Steele, who is studying literature, and who becomes romantically (and sexually) entangled with an entrepreneur named Christian Grey.

The Writer’s Coffee Shop, which was initially founded in 2009 as a community-based literature fan site, established a publishing division in 2010. The publishing division, which releases genre fiction, culls titles from content directly uploaded to its Web site, and lists 11 books in its fall 2011 catalog. When asked why she opted to publish through such a little-known outfit, James said she liked the idea of going small. “I didn’t try any larger, more conventional forms of publishing, preferring to dip my toe first into the publishing world with a small, very supportive publishing house.”

I haven’t seen a response yet from Ms. James or TWCS, so I don’t know if or how much is true but a movie deal is being discussed then my reaction is HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll let you know if I hear anything else.

My Top 10 Book Covers of 2011

After putting myself through the trauma of choosing an order for my Top 10 Books for 2011 I decided I deserved a reprieve  for my favorite Top 10 Book covers. They are presented in no particular order, but I loved them all. Several of them were what drew my interest to the book in the 1st place.

I’m afraid in this day and age of ebook popularity that book covers aren’t given as much thought and attention as they should receive. I believe that’s a huge mistake. Whether I’m in a book store browsing,  looking online, or perusing a publishers site, I’m still drawn in by a great book cover. Sometimes it’s the colors that catch my eye, sometimes it’s the design/ picture/text, and sometimes it’s all.  I work in retail as a merchandiser when I’m not doing this, and my boss has a saying he’s fond of…It’s a 5 second decision for customers.

I don’t know how much input an author has on his/her book cover, but authors if you do have anything to say in the matter make sure your book cover speaks for you.

Alright, show time…

My Top 10 Books of 2011

Deciding on my top 10 adult books was not an easy task for me because I read so many great books this year. Some were stand alone books, some were part of a complete series, and some have sequels or trilogies coming out in 2012.

Once I decided on my top 10 list, I then had to put them in order and this was even harder. In fact,  I would go so far as to say it was a little bit traumatic. Obviously, I loved them all. I recommended them all. So…  that got me to thinking about what set any of them apart. What made one any more special than the others?  What I finally decided on was the number of times I read each of the books. Although I normally read very fast,  when I choose to spend my free time rereading a book instead of picking something new then clearly that book must speak to me in some profound way. I probably don’t need to point this out to you, BUT,  the number and absolute hawtness of the Fantasy Boyfriends in these books  is enough to give a gurl a heart attack. That being said I give you my top ten books of 2011 in order. If you haven’t read any of them already I highly encourage you to do so.

Some Fifty to celebrate…

How about some Fifty to celebrate that this fabulous book by E L James made it into the final round of the Goodreads Choice Awards? Yeah! That’s what I thought too.

“- “Why don’t you like to be touched?”
– “Because I’m fifty shades of fucked-up, Anastasia”
― E.L. JamesFifty Shades of Grey

“Does this mean you’re going to make love to me tonight, Christian?” Holy shit. Did I just say that? His mouth drops open slightly, but he recovers quickly.
“No, Anastasia it doesn’t. Firstly, I don’t make love. I fuck… hard. Secondly, there’s a lot more paperwork to do, and thirdly, you don’t yet know what you’re in for. You could still run for the hills. Come, I want to show you my playroom.”
My mouth drops open. Fuck hard! Holy shit, that sounds so… hot. But why are we looking at a playroom? I am mystified.
“You want to play on your Xbox?” I ask. He laughs, loudly.
“No, Anastasia, no Xbox, no Playstation. Come.”… Producing a key from his pocket, he unlocks yet another door and takes a deep breath.
“You can leave anytime. The helicopter is on stand-by to take you whenever you want to go, you can stay the night and go home in the morning. It’s fine whatever you decide.”
“Just open the damn door, Christian.”
He opens the door and stands back to let me in. I gaze at him once more. I so want to know what’s in here. Taking a deep breath I walk in.
And it feels like I’ve time-traveled back to the sixteenth century and the Spanish Inquisition.
Holy fuck.
― E.L. JamesFifty Shades of Grey

“Let me ask you something first. Do you want a regular vanilla relationship with no kinky fuckery at all?”
My mouth drops open. “Kinky fuckery?” I squeak.
“Kinky fuckery.”
“I can’t believe you said that.’
“Well, I did. Answer me,” he says calmly.
I flush. My inner goddess is down on bended knee with her hands clasped in supplication begging me.
“I like your kinky fuckery,” I whisper.”
― E.L. JamesFifty Shades of Grey

“I am going to have coffee with Christian Grey… and I hate coffee.”
― E.L. JamesFifty Shades of Grey

“He’s naked except for those soft ripped jeans, top button casually undone. Jeez, he looks so freaking hot. My subconscious is frantically fanning herself, and my inner goddess is swaying and writhing to some primal carnal rhythm.”
― E.L. JamesFifty Shades of Grey

Wow! I’m totally fanning myself too 😉

Last chance to vote in the Goodreads Choice Awards Semi-finals

Today is your last chance to vote in the Goodreads Choice Awards semi-final round. I would like to encourage you to vote for your favorite books and authors if you haven’t already.

You may ask yourself if your vote is really important? Does it really make a difference? I say YES it does.

In the 1st round  write ins were allowed, and one of my favorite authors advanced to the semi-finals because enough people took the time to write him in for Best Goodreads  Author, and his book for Best Romance. I’m talking about, Sylvain Reynard,  and his book Gabriel’s Inferno. I’ve bought, read, reviewed, rated, tagged, made lists, and recommended this book countless times. Why? Because it’s just that good. I’ve also had the pleasure of interviewing SR and he did a guest post once for me. So to say I’m a fan is putting it mildly. Now let’s go beyond the gift he has for writing, and let me tell you that I also admire SR. He inspires me to believe in myself, and to try and advocate for kindness in the world. He also supports various charities, and encourages others to do the same.  He goes above and beyond in many ways.  He deserves the nominations and he deserves your vote.

I also want to talk about another one of my favorite authors who has made it into the semi-finals for Best Romance with her book Fifty Shades of Grey.  E L James is an exceptional writer. I remember when I 1st read Fifty I couldn’t get it out of my mind. For days I would reread bits and pages, and I would try to analyze what was so captivating to me. Well it wasn’t just a great story with great erotica. It went beyond that. The characters were so real and vivid that I had a strong emotional attachment to them. The sequel was due out shortly, and I was dying to get my hands on it. Lucky for me I was able to get an ARC and it was even better than the 1st.  I was also able to participate in her blog tour and giveaway, and she did an interview for me.  Ms. James also participates in worthy causes. One of them is The Fandom Gives Back.  She is another person who inspires me through her care and concern for others.

I would also like to point out that both of these authors come from small publishing companies, so lets show our support and please take a few minutes and go vote. Thanks.
